Scholarships at The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences are now open for application. The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) is a national organization for scientific research, technology transfer and education in agriculture. The Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GSCAAS) is a higher education institution mainly focusing on graduate education. Numbers of Scholarships at The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences are offered to international students.

GSCAAS has been ranked among China’s first-class graduate schools, with an overall competitive edge in the disciplines of agriculture. It offers Master’s and Doctoral programs to international students through 34 institutes of CAAS. The study duration is usually 3 years for both Master’s and Doctoral programs. The instruction language of the graduate programs is mostly English or bilingual (Chinese-English).

Scholarships at The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Benefits

The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences have different scholarships that provides different benefit for selected applicants as shown below:

I. The Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS)

  1. A fee waiver for tuition and basic textbooks;
  2. Free on-campus dormitory accommodation;
  3. Living allowance (per month):
    • Master’s students & Visiting scholars: 3,000 RMB;
    • Doctoral students & Senior visiting scholars: 3,500 RMB.
  4. Fee to cover Comprehensive Medical Insurance.

II. The Graduate School of CAAS Scholarship (GSCAASS)

  1. A fee waiver for tuition and basic textbooks;
  2. Free on-campus dormitory accommodation (supported by GSCAAS supervisor);
  3. Research Assistantship (per month, supported by GSCAAS supervisor):
    • Master’s students & Visiting scholars: 3,000 RMB;
    • Doctoral students & Senior scholars: 3,500 RMB.
  4. Fee to cover Comprehensive Medical Insurance provided by GSCAAS.

III. The Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS)

  1. exempt from tuition costs for the specific academic year;
  2. The GSCAAS supervisor will provide research assistant fellowship;
  3. accommodation fee of on-campus dormitory and
  4. Comprehensive Medical Insurance.

IV. GSCAAS-OWSD fellowship for female scientists

  1. A monthly allowance (USD 1,000) to cover basic living expenses such as accommodation and meals while in the host country;
  2. A special allowance to attend international conferences during the period of the fellowship;
  3. The opportunity to attend regional science communications workshops, on a competitive basis;
  4. A return ticket from the home country to the host institute for the agreed research period;
  5. Annual medical insurance contribution (USD 200/year), Visa expenses;
  6. Study fees (including tuition and registration fees) in agreement with the chosen host institute.

Scholarships at The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Eligibility

To apply for Scholarships at The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, candidate must meet following criteria:

  • Non-Chinese citizens;
  • Healthy and willing to abide by the Chinese laws and decrees;
  • Master’s programs: holds a Bachelor’s degree and is under the age of 35;
  • Doctoral programs: holds a Master’s degree and is under the age of 40;
  • Visiting Scholar: has at least two years’ of undergraduate studies and is under the age of 35;
  • Senior Visiting Scholar: holds a Master’s or higher degree, or has an academic title of associate professor or higher, and is under the age of 40.
  • English and/or Chinese proficiency.

Application instructions

Those who would like to apply for the Scholarships at The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences need to follow instruction below. Candidates are also required to upload necessary documents and send application package to the university on time.

A. Fill the CAAS application Form

Fill the application Form for Study in CAAS through the online platform which is also available on the official page. For the Part II of the Form, please leave it blank, this part is to be filled in by the applicant’s supervisor and host institution . Please choose the major and host supervisor cautiously and submit your application after a thorough discussion with the expected supervisor.

B. Fill the CSC Application Form (Only for Chinese Government Scholarship applicants)

Fill in the CSC Application Form. Select the appropriate program category and type in the Agency No. Please download the completed form and upload it as an attachment in the “Add supporting documents” section of the GSCAAS online application system.

C. Required Documents

  1. Photocopy of passport (with at least 2 years’ validity) – the personal information page;
  2. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy);
  3. Academic transcripts of the most advanced studies (notarized photocopy);
  4. Two reference letters from two Professors or experts with equal titles in related fields;
  5. CV and research proposal (no less than 500 words);
  6. Language Proficiency Requirements: English Language Certificate; Or score reports of TOEFL, IELTS, CEFR, etc.; Or score reports of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK);
  7. Photocopies of degree thesis abstract and abstracts of maximum of 5 representative academic papers;
  8. No Objection Certificate from employer for employed candidates;
  9. Foreigner Physical Examination Form;
  10. Acceptance letter (optional). Applicants with acceptance letter from CAAS professors are preferred.

Applicants are required to submit hard copies of their application documents directly to the host institutes (Not to GSCAAS). Address information are available in the online application system.

D. Deadlines

The deadlines for the Graduate School of CAAS Scholarship (GSCAASS) are December 31st, 2019 for the spring semester enrollment and April 30th, 2020 for the autumn semester enrollment.

Those who apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) and the Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS) are required to submit their application between February 1stand April 30th, 2020 for the 2020 autumn enrollment.
