Applications are now open for the University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) for the 2024-2025 (September 2024 intake) academic year. This scholarship has been created to support excellent students from both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA countries, applying for a Master’s program at the University of Twente.

Winners of the scholarship will receive between €3,000 and €22,000 for one year. Those who applied for a two year program need to meet certain criteria to keep the scholarship for the second year. UTS recipients may also be eligible to apply for and receive additional scholarships (e.g. Kipaji Scholarship). This is a unique opportunity to study in the Netherlands.

Founded in 1961 as Technische Hogeschool Twente, the institution was later renamed Universiteit Twente (University of Twente – UT) in 1986. UT is a public technical university located in Enschede, the Netherlands. The university mainly offers English-taught Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs focused on technology. With nearly 30% of its student body from abroad, the university has students from 80 different countries.

University of Twente Scholarship Benefits

This Europe scholarship will provide selected candidates with €3,000 – €22,000 for one year (approximately 50 scholarships available). If you have applied for a two-year program, make sure you meet the requirements to receive the scholarship for the second year. You must have obtained:

  • An average grade of 7 (out of 10) at the end of the third quartile of the first year
  • At least 50% of European Credits at the end of the third quartile of the first year.

Note : This scholarship is meant as compensation for study-related costs. It is up to the scholarship student to decide how to spend the money. No cost (e.g. tuition fees) will be paid on your behalf.

In case of a two-year study programme, students can receive an additional UTS of an amount equal to that in the first year to cover the expenses of the second year. However, the scholarship will only be continued during the second year when students meet the process requirements for the UTS.

University of Twente Scholarship Eligibility

Application for a UT scholarship is a procedure separate from the application for course entry at the University of Twente. Regardless of funding, you will need to obtain an admission letter first. This means you:

  • have been (provisionally) admitted to one of the qualifying UT Master’s programs starting in the academic year 2024/2025 (September);
  • must have a student number.
  • have not graduated from a UT (under)graduate program;
  • comply with the conditions for obtaining an entry visa in the Netherlands (if applicable);
  • comply with the general English language test requirement Academic IELTS 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT of 90) and an additional 6.0 (TOEFL iBT 20) on the sub score of speaking skills
  • are not eligible for a Dutch study loan;
  • The University of Twente Scholarship is a scholarship for excellent students. Typically, this means that you belong to the best 5 to 10 percent of your class.

Note : The UTS is not available for Dutch and/or current UT students and EU/EEA students. The scholarship is also not available for Master’s programmes at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC). Furthermore, UTS is not available for the pre-Master programme.

How to Apply for the University of Twente Scholarship

Interested in this university scholarship need to apply for a Master’s programme first. Once you have applied for a Master’s program and received a (conditional) admission letter, you can apply for the scholarship with your student number. There are two application rounds to apply for this scholarship (for programs starting September 2024).

Note : Application form opens on 15 October 2023, 09.00 CET. Therefore, interested candidates must wait till October 15 to click on the apply button to submit their applications.

  1. I am actually very interested in the scholarship opening. The problem I have is that I have not yet taken the English Test exams and the time frame left to conduct all necessary facilities before sitting for the exams, the time frame must have elapsed for the scholarship offer. On the contrary, I have a certificate of English proficiency and I have carried out all of my studies from primary school till the university in English Language.
