The University is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) and follows a traditional American university model, entirely Online.

More than 5,000 professionals have volunteered for the University, including University President, Provost, Academic Deans, Course Developers, Academic Advisers and Course Instructors. The platform provides students with instruction by some top university lecturers worldwide.
The system uses pedagogical model based on an online collaborative learning environment that promotes peer-to-peer learning and utilizes open-source technology along with open educational resources (OER). Tuition-free” means that University of the People, does not charge students for their educational instruction, course materials or annual enrollment.
In order to maintain our high-quality online programs, UoPeople does charge modest, per-course assessment fees. Thanks to the generosity of donors, scholarships are made available in select cases to help students in need cover these assessment fees. Students can apply each term for scholarships to cover Application Processing Fee and Exam Processing Fees.

Scholarship Types and Coverage
1. The Federal Republic of Germany Scholarship
Available to applicants who were born in Syria. Must be residing in Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, or Jordan. This scholarship covers course assessment fees towards an undergraduate degree.
2. The International Baccalaureate M.Ed. Scholarship
Applicants are required to possess a Bachelor’s Degree and wish to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education. This scholarship covers course assessment fees towards a Master’s Degree in Education.
3. U.S. Embassy in Burkina Faso Scholarship
Applicants must be residing in Burkina Faso. This scholarship covers course assessment fees towards an Associate’s Degree.
4. Simone Biles Legacy Scholarship Fund
Available to all degree-seeking students, with priority for those who have been in foster care. The scholarship is for associate and bachelor’s degree students.
5. Botari Women’s Scholarship Fund
Available to female, Brazilian, associate degree-seeking students and applicants. The scholarship will cover up to 10 Exam Processing Fees.
6. Emergency Refugee Assistance Scholarship Fund
Available to refugees and asylum seekers. The scholarship will cover up to 10 Exam Processing Fees.
7. Fondation Hoffmann Scholarship
Available to Degree Seeking students who were previously awarded a Fondation Hoffmann Scholarship. The scholarship is for associate’s degree students only. The Scholarship will cover up to 10 Exam Processing Fees.
8. Gabriel and Marci Hawawini Scholarship Fund
Available to Degree Seeking students who were previously awarded a Hawawini Scholarship. The scholarship will cover up to 10 Exam Processing Fees.
9. Gutwirth Fondation Scholarship Fund
Available to Degree Seeking and Foundation students born or living in Israel or Palestine. The scholarship is for associate’s degree students only. The scholarship will provide funding for up to the 20 Exam Processing Fees required for an associate’s degree.
10. Small Giants Scholarship Fund for Refugees
Available to Degree Seeking students who are refugees or asylum seekers currently residing in Israel. The scholarship is for associate’s degree students only. The Scholarship will provide funding for up to the 20 Exam Processing Fees required for an associate’s degree.
11. UoPeople General Scholarship Fund
Available to Degree Seeking students studying towards an associate’s degree who are not eligible for or awarded a dedicated scholarship. The scholarship will provide funding for up to 10 Exam Processing Fees.
12. Vietnamese Scholarship Fund
Available to Foundations and Degree Seeking students studying towards an associate’s degree. Must be residing in Vietnam. The scholarship will provide funding for up to 10 Exam Processing Fees and is renewable.
Tuition Free Degrees at University of the People Eligibility
The scholarships are open to students who have graduated from high school, have sufficient English level to study at the University and have access to a computer and Internet.
