The application call for the CSC Marine Scholarship of China for International Students is open. The Marine scholarship is jointly created by the State Oceanic Administration (SOA) and the Ministry of Education of China for the purpose of supporting outstanding students from coastal countries or regions around the South China Sea, the Pacific, the Indian Oceans, African and American developing countries to study in China.

This scholarship program to study in Asia is open for master’s or doctoral degree in oceanography or other related specialties to enhance international marine cooperation and promote harmonious ocean development around the world. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is in charge of the admissions and routine management of the Scholarship.

  • Eligible Program: Master’s or doctoral degree in oceanography or other related specialties at partner universities.
  • Number of Awards: Varies per institution.
  • Duration: Master’s programs (2 or 3 years) and doctoral programs (4 years).
  • Target group: Open to all nationals except Chinese.

CSC Marine Scholarship of China Benefits

The Marine Scholarship is fully funded and will provide to selected candidates the following benefits:

Master’s Program

  1. Monthly stipend (3,000/Month)
  2. Tuition fee waiver
  3. accommodation on campus
  4. Comprehensive Medical Insurance
  5. 1 year Chinese language training for Chinese-taught programs
  6. Duration: 2-3 years (+ 1 year for Chinese-taught programs)

Doctoral Program

  1. Monthly stipend (3,500/Month)
  2. Tuition fee waiver
  3. accommodation on campus
  4. Comprehensive Medical Insurance
  5. 1 year Chinese language training for Chinese-taught programs
  6. Duration: 3-4 years (+ 1 year for Chinese-taught programs).

CSC Marine Scholarship of China Eligibility

To apply for this government scholarship, applicant must meet below criteria:

  • be a citizen of non-Chinese nationality in good health, from a coastal/island country of South China Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific and its surrounding island countries, or an African, American developing country.
  • apply for the postgraduate program of ocean-related specialties.
  • Any applicant who is currently engaged in oceanographic and relevant sectors will be given high priority.
  • applicants for Master’s degree studies are required to have a bachelor’s degree and are usually under the age of 40 (as of September 1, 2024).
  • candidates for doctoral degree studies are required to have a master’s degree and are usually under the age of 45 (as of September 1, 2024).

How to Apply for the CSC Marine Scholarship of China

Interested applicants who would like to apply for this CSC scholarship must follow steps below:

  1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (to be filled out in Chinese or English)
    1. An applicant must log on to the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System, fill in all the necessary information and then
    2. print the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, which will be automatically generated after successful submission.
    3. The online application system can be found at http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina;
    4. Choose Program Category: Type B;
    5. the institutional codes of the universities are:
      • Xiamen University: 10384,
      • Zhejiang University: 10335,
      • Ocean University of China: 10423,
      • Tongji University: 10247. Please click here for more details on Chinese universities’ agency numbers.
  2. Applicants shall make another online application (Application for Admission at the chosen university from partner Institutions) and upload the scan copy of Application Form for Marine Scholarship. They must contact or check the chosen university’s website for more details.

Required Documents

  1. Photocopy of last degree certificate. Certificates in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translation in Chinese or English.
  2. Academic transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translations in Chinese or English.
  3. The applicant’s study or research plan in China (in Chinese or English).
  4. Two letters of recommendation (in Chinese or English) by Professors or associate Professors.
  5. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in Chinese or English. The applicant must strictly take all examinations as required by the Form. Leaving a blank or absence of signature from the doctor or seal of the hospital will make the form invalid.
