The Northwestern Polytechnical University’s NPU President Scholarship Program is designed to attract outstanding international students to come and study at NPU. The scholarship is open for Master’s and PhD degree studies and have both a fully funded scheme and a partial funding scheme.
The International College was founded in the October 2007 and in the same year, NPU became one host university of the Chinese Government Scholarship acknowledged by the China Scholarship Council of the Ministry of Education. Since then, the university has continuously received international students of different majors all over the world.
There are 14 schools of NPU which offer undergraduate, master and PhD programs to international students in English and Chinese medium to meet the requirements of different applicants and disciplines. The university is situated in Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, a sub-provincial city located in the center of the Guanzhong Plain in Northwest China.

NPU President Scholarship Program Benefits
The successful applicants for the NPU President scholarship program will receive the following benefits:
Type I Scholarship
- tuition fees waived
- accommodation
- monthly allowance:
- 1,500 RMB for Undergraduate candidates.
- 2,000 RMB for Master’s candidates.
- 3,500 RMB for PhD candidates.
Type II Scholarship
Second level winners are exempt from tuition fee.
Type III Scholarship
Third level winners are exempt from 50% tuition fee.
NPU President Scholarship Program Eligibility
To qualify for the NPU President Scholarship Program, Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- All applicants must obey Chinese laws and regulations, the rules and regulations set forth by NPU, respect Chinese customs, enjoy the knowledge of Chinese culture, and adopt a friendly attitude towards China.
- Be in good physical and mental health (no infectious diseases and no physical or mental diseases affecting normal study).
- Be non-Chinese citizens with valid passports.
- Applicants should have good learning ability and academic performance. The requirement for previous academic grade level is an average score of 75% and above.
- Applicants should have Chinese/English language proficiency that meets the application and admission criteria.
- Certificate of Chinese/English proficiency:
- Chinese Requirement: HSK Level 5 (200 or above)
- English Requirement: Minimum TOEFL of 80 (My best Scores, iBT home edition, Essentials, DI code C317 are accepted) and IELTS 6.0 (no less than 5.5 points for each part), Duolingo English Test (115 or above), or native speaker.
- Level of education and age criteria:
- Applicants applying for undergraduate program hould hold a high school diploma and be under the age of 25 before September 1st, 2024.
- Master’s candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree and should not exceed 35 years old by September 1st, 2024.
- PhD candidates must have a Master’s Degree and should not exceed 40 years old by September 1st, 2024.

- Second batch: January 16, 2024 – February 15, 2024
- Third batch: February 16, 2024 – March 15, 2024
- Fourth batch: March 16, 2024 – April 15, 2024
