Applications are now open for the Mahmoud S. Rabbani Scholarship. The Lutfia Rabbani Foundation has established the Mahmoud S. Rabbani Scholarship to pay tribute to its founder. This scholarship program is aimed at supporting Arab students who have been officially accepted into a Master’s or PhD program in the Netherlands or Dutch students who have been accepted into a Master’s or PhD program in the Arab World. The main objective of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students who wish to broaden their academic and cultural perspectives and to promote interaction between Arab and European students.
In line with the foundation’s mission, all fields of study are eligible for the scholarship. The primary requirements for applicants are a strong command of English or the language of their program. The scholarship is intended for ambitious students who are interested in fostering relationships between the Arab World and Europe. Additionally, the scholarship includes a mentoring program that offers recipients guidance on both a personal and professional level and access to the foundation’s extensive and diverse network and platforms.

Mahmoud S. Rabbani Scholarship Benefits
The maximum amount of this foundation scholarship to study in the Netherlands is €15,000. Additionally, the scholarship includes a mentoring program that offers recipients guidance on both a personal and professional level and access to the foundation’s extensive and diverse network and platforms.
No support will be provided retroactively, i.e. to expenses linked to a Master’s or PhD program that has already been implemented.
The Foundation’s scholarship is only valid for the proposed program of study at the academic institution specified in the application and only for the academic year for which the application is made.
Mahmoud S. Rabbani Scholarship Eligibility
This scholarship is open for candidates who meet the following requirements:
- Candidates must be nationals of one of the eligible countries (Please find the full list above).
- Arab students who have received an official acceptance letter for a Master’s or a PhD program in the Netherlands or
- Dutch students who have received an official acceptance letter for a Master’s or a PhD program in the Arab World. Applications coming from the Netherlands should be Dutch nationals.
- The candidate should have a good knowledge of English and/or the language of study.
Evaluation Criteria
- Academic excellence.
- Personal growth: Assessing the contribution the proposed field of study would have on the applicant’s continued academic and professional development and/or its potential for impact in the local context.
- Strong motivation in line with the ideals of the Lutfia Rabbani Foundation’s goal of promoting Euro-Arab dialogue and understanding.
- Financial need.

- Budget: please provide a detailed financial overview including tuition fees and living expenses, as well as other sources of income to cover your study in the Netherlands for the academic year you are applying.
