Applications are currently being received for the Government of Quebec and AUF Scholarships. AUF Americas launch the call for applications within the framework of the Agreement signed between the AUF (Association of Francophone Universities) and the Government of Quebec in terms of student mobility at the university level.

This Quebec government scholarship program aims to allow foreign students who have already been admitted to French-speaking universities in Quebec for studies at the master’s level and PhD, to benefit from an exemption from additional tuition fees and to benefit from the same tuition fees as Quebec students at the university level.

In addition, selected students will benefit from a return air ticket, a first-year installation bonus, and an annual financial allowance from the AUF. The AUF aims to strengthen the scientific Francophonie by promoting solidarity through student mobility, in order to improve scientific capacities and research establishments from the “South” which are members of the AUF.

  • Host institutions: higher education institutions in Quebec, Canada.
  • Fields of study: all disciplines in a French-speaking institution of higher education in Quebec.
  • Number of grants: not specified.
  • Duration: two (2) years for a master’s and three (3) years for PhD.
  • Eligible countries: open to Canadian citizens.

Government of Quebec and AUF Scholarships Benefits

This government scholarship will allow selected students to be exempted from the additional tuition fees normally required for pursuing studies in French in Quebec and benefit from the same tuition fees as Quebec students in university education. In addition, AUF Americas will grant the following benefits:

  1. Contribution to the purchase of a return plane ticket (country of origin – host country: Quebec) at a lower cost in economy class for a maximum amount of €1,900.
    • The cost of the plane ticket (up to €1,900) will be reimbursed by the AUF upon presentation of the original invoice for the purchase of the plane ticket. The student must have arrived in Quebec to apply for reimbursement.
    • Costs for visas or vaccination/COVID-19 test, excess baggage, etc. remain the students’ responsibility.
  2. Provision of travel insurance (sickness, accident, repatriation) for trips. This insurance does not exempt the recipient from subscribing to the compulsory student insurance required by the establishment of higher education in Quebec.
  3. Payment of an installation bonus in the first year: €1,000.
  4. Payment of an annual lump sum allowance: €1,000.

From the second year, the payment of this amount is conditional:

  • To pass (academic results) in previous sessions And
  • To maintain the status of “exempt students” of this scholarship, validated after each session by the Government of Quebec.

Government of Quebec and AUF Scholarships Eligibility

This call concerns candidates admitted to the fall 2024 or winter 2025 sessions who meet the following two prerequisites:

  • For Masters students:
    1. Have completed the courses and obtained a bachelor’s in one of the establishments in the “South” member of the AUF ET
    2. Have been admitted to a master’s program in French in all disciplines combined at a French-language higher education institution in Quebec (short programs and specialized graduate diplomas are excluded).
  • For doctoral students:
    1. Have completed the courses and obtained a master’s degree in one of the establishments in the “South” member of the AUF ET
    2. Have been admitted to a doctoral program in French in any discipline at higher educational institutions in Quebec (short 3rd cycle programs are excluded).

NB: Member institutions located in the following regions: Africa, Latin America, Asia, Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe and Middle East. The list of AUF member establishments in the “South” is available in the online application form (question 3).

In addition, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a passport from your country of origin valid for at least six months.
  • Not be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Not have applied for permanent residence under Canadian immigration laws.
  • Be a national of a country located in one of the eligible regions (Africa, Latin America, Asia, Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe and Middle East).
  • Not be on Canadian soil at the time of submitting the application.
  • Have a grade point average above 80% (13/20) or the equivalent.
  • Not be in possession of any other scholarships from granting agencies.

Required Documents

  1. Scanned copy of the diploma (if not, certificate of the diploma) for a bachelor’s degree for applications at the master’s level or a master’s degree for applications at the doctoral level, awarded by an institution in the “South” member of the AUF.
  2. All transcripts from the bachelor’s degree for master’s degree applications, those from the master’s degree course for doctoral applications.
  3. Proof of admission to a study program issued by a French-speaking higher education institution in Quebec.
  4. Curriculum vitae (max. two pages).
  5. Cover letter (max. two pages).
  6. Passport: valid for at least six months (photo ID, expiry date, and passport number).
  7. Summary of the research project for doctoral students (max. 1 page).
  8. Quebec Acceptance Certificate issued by the Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion.
  9. Hold a student study permit that complies with Canadian immigration regulations. This condition is not mandatory, but priority will be given to candidates holding a study permit and the Quebec acceptance certificate.

NB: Supporting documents must all be in PDF format and attached to the online form. Documents will not be accepted by any other means. The results of the call (pre-selection) will be announced at the end of May 2024.
