Applications for the FAO Hungarian Government Scholarship 2025-2026 for international students will be received from 20 January to 28 February 2025. The programme is financed by the Hungarian Government, according to the Agreement between FAO and Hungary in 2007. Scholarships are provided for citizens of selected developing countries to undertake studies and research at partner Hungarian Universities.

The scholarship is available for the Master in Aquaculture and Master in Animal Husbandry Engineering. Courses will be offered provided the minimum number of students is reached. Applicants who were not selected in previous years may re-apply for the 2025-2026 Program. These applicants will have to submit their complete dossier once again via EMAIL ONLY. The duration of the scholarship cannot be extended or postponed.

FAO Hungarian Government Scholarship Benefits

Selected applicants for the FAO-Hungarian Government scholarship for developing countries will be provided by the following Benefits:

  1. application and tuition fees throughout the study period with basic books and notes;
  2. dormitory accommodation;
  3. subsistence costs;
  4. health insurance.

Note : All of the above-mentioned costs are financed by the Hungarian Government, according to the Agreement between FAO and Hungary in 2007. The scholarship only covers the student’s costs. Family members are not supported within the frame of this programme.

Eligible Programs for the FAO Hungarian Scholarship

The following Master of Science degree course is being offered in English for the 2025-2026 Academic Year:

  1. Master in Aquaculture – Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Szent István Campus, Gödöllő
  2. Master in Animal Husbandry Engineering – University of Debrecen, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management, Debrecen

Courses will be offered provided the minimum number of students is reached.

FAO Hungarian Government Scholarship Eligibility

Those who would like to apply for this scholarship to study in Europe will be selected on the basis of the following criteria

  • Citizenship and residency of one of the eligible countries (see full list above);
  • Excellent school achievements;
  • English language proficiency (for courses taught in English);
  • Motivation;
  • Good health;
  • Age (candidates under 30 are preferred).

How to Apply for the FAO Hungarian Government Scholarship

Eligible candidates who wish to apply for this government scholarship program must prepare and send their application package (consisting of the required documents below) by E-MAIL to [email protected].

Required Documents

  1. Application form duly completed (Please click here to download the form);
  2. A recent curriculum vitae;
  3. A copy of high school/college diploma and transcript/report of study or copy of the diploma attachment;
  4. A copy of the certificate of proficiency in English;
  5. Copies of relevant pages of passport showing expiration date and passport number;
  6. A letter of recommendation;
  7. Statement of motivation;
  8. Health Certificate issued by Medical Doctor;
  9. Certificate of Good Conduct issued by local police authority.

Note : All submitted documents must be in ENGLISH. Documents submitted in any other language will not be accepted. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that documents are duly translated and certified by a competent officer and that each document is saved with a name that identifies what it is.

Application and selection process

Student selection will take place in two phases:

Phase 1: FAO will pre-screen candidates and submit applications to the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, which will send them to the University. Students must submit only COMPLETE dossiers. Incomplete dossiers will not be considered. Files without names will not be processed.

Phase 2: Selected candidates may be asked to take a written or oral English examination as part of the admission procedure. The University will now run a further selection process and inform each of the successful candidates. Student selection will be made by the University only, without any involvement on the part of FAO. Selected students will also be notified by the Ministry.

Paper copies of dossiers received by post, courier or any other way, will not be taken into consideration. Applicants who were not selected in previous years may re-apply to the 2025-2026 Programme. These applicants will have to submit the complete dossier once again by EMAIL ONLY. The duration of the scholarship cannot be extended or postponed. Note : The duration of the scholarship cannot be extended or postponed. Please be informed that the course will only start if sufficient number of successful applications are received. A Scholarship Study Contract will be signed between the selected students and the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary (MoAH), which is the donor of the program, at the time of first semester registration.

Applicants wishing to explore external funding opportunities to cover travel costs may do so at their own initiative. However, in view of the length of the process, applicants wishing to apply for 2025 scholarships are strongly encouraged to E-MAIL their application while they endeavour to identify funds or pending confirmation that such funds will be granted.
