This African Union internship program’s main goal is to introduce participants at the early stage of their careers to its activities and help them develop personal and professional skills. African Union Internship Program Terms and Conditions

Please find below the Terms and Conditions of the African Union Internship Program.

  • The African Union (AU) assumes no financial responsibility for interns; all costs related to travel, accommodation, and living expenses must be covered by the intern.
  • The AU will provide reasonable support to interns in securing entry and residence visas.
  • Interns are not eligible for any travel-related compensation.
  • The internships are granted only once per candidate, for an initial period of three (3) months, with the possibility of a single three-month renewal.
  • Interns are not entitled to medical travel or medical evacuation funded by the Commission. Accordingly, interns must maintain personal insurance coverage for the full duration of the internship.

African Union Internship Program Eligibility

To apply for this internship program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Actively enrolled in at least the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program OR
  2. Must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree or an advanced/ post graduate (master’s) qualification in a related academic field;
  3. Be nationals of a Member State of the African Union.
  4. Be full-time students currently enrolled in the final year of their bachelor’s or graduate school program.
  5. Be fluent in at least one of the African Union working languages (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese).
  6. Be no more than thirty-two (32) years of age at the time of selection.
  7. Possess the highest standard of moral conduct and integrity.
  8. Have not been convicted of any serious criminal offence, excluding minor traffic offenses.
  9. Prior work experience is not required for the internship positions.

Furthermore, the program is looking for motivated young Africans who have the following Core Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Be committed to work
  • Ability to work harmoniously in a multi-cultural environment
  • Possess the highest standards of moral conduct and integrity.

Required Skills

  • Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with e-mail and internet applications
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Proficiency in one of the AU official working languages (French, English, Portuguese, Arabic, Spanish, or Kiswahili) and fluency in another AU language(s) is an added advantage.
