Visas for Creation is a feature of the program “Africa and the Caribbean in Creations”. It aims to support artistic emergence in Africa and the Caribbean through residencies in metropolitan France and in the overseas regions to enable them to develop a project of creation or research.
The program is intended for artists and curators residing in Africa or the Caribbean, with professional experience in the artistic field concerned and who need, for their creation or career, a residence in metropolitan France or in French overseas territory. The residency must last for at least two months and must take place in 2022
This time of residence can take place in a professional structure, a place already a partner of the French Institute, or in connection with a program of residence of a territorial collectively. This structure must be able to provide technical and artistic support. Every year, the Institut français supports around thirty artists.

- Disciplines: Artists may submit a research project dealing with a topic or theme of their choice, in any of the following fields: Architecture / landscape / town planning, visual arts, street arts / circus / puppetry, exhibition curation / art criticism, digital arts, dance, design/graphic design, artistic professions, fashion, music (modern, jazz, classical, contemporary, for images), photography, multidisciplinary projects, theatre.

Visas for Creation Benefits
The residence programme allows recipients to develop a creative or research project and benefit from air fare coverage, a living allowance of €1,000 per month and repatriation insurance.

Host institutions
To apply, candidates must already have identified the partner residency for which they wish to apply through the Visas for Creation programme. The artist residency must be connected to a professional institution such as :
- CCN, CDN, national theatre, CDN, art centre, SMAC, etc.
- Or be connected to a regional authority’s residency programme.
- Or one of the following Institut français’ partner institutions.

Visas for Creation Eligibility
Thos who wish to apply for this program must :
- Be able to provide evidence of professional experience in the relevant artistic field ;
- Be released from any other professional activities for the whole duration of their stay ;
- Manage the residency independently ;
- Not have applied to any other current Institut français programmes ;
- Not have been awarded a Visa for Crea4on during the past two years ;
- Find a partner institution that will be able to provide technical and artistic support and accommodation (Please check the list above).

- The presentation specific to your chosen residency ;
- A curriculum vitae ;
- A sworn statement guaranteeing that the works submitted are indeed those of the candidate ;
- Letter of invitation or commitment providing evidence of the host residency’s participation.
Only those candidates whose submissions have been selected will be notified to this effect via email. In addition, the list of recipients will be made public on the Institut français website.
