• Number of Awards: Approximately 850 students for the 2027 academic year (quota may change).

UNIST Scholarship for Graduate Students Benefits

Selected candidates for this university scholarship will have the following benefits depending on their scholarship classification:

1. Government Scholarship

• Full tuition support: KRW 3,840,000 per semester (approximately KRW 7,680,000 per year).
• Stipend provided:
  • Engineering/Natural Science: Master’s more than KRW 9,600,000 annually (KRW 800,000 monthly); Doctoral more than KRW 13,200,000 annually (KRW 1,100,000 monthly).
  • Management Engineering: Master’s more than KRW 2,880,000 annually (KRW 240,000 monthly); Doctoral more than KRW 4,740,000 annually (KRW 395,000 monthly).
• Doctoral candidates are eligible for selection as Military Research Personnel (Technical Research Personnel Program).
• On-campus dormitory available (out-of-pocket expenses by students).

2. UNIST Scholarship

• Full tuition support: KRW 3,840,000 per semester (reimbursed through stipend). Final candidates pay tuition out of pocket and are supported the full amount during the semester by their advisors.
• Stipend provided (including tuition support):
  • Engineering/Natural Science: Master’s more than KRW 17,280,000 annually; Doctoral more than KRW 20,880,000 annually.
  • Management Engineering: Master’s more than KRW 10,560,000 annually; Doctoral more than KRW 12,420,000 annually.
• Doctoral candidates are eligible for selection as Military Research Personnel (Technical Research Personnel Program).
• On-campus dormitory available (out-of-pocket expenses by students).

3. Other Scholarship (Including Academic-Institutional Scholarship)

• Students are responsible for paying full tuition: KRW 3,840,000 per semester (approximately KRW 7,680,000 per year).
• No stipend is provided.
• Doctoral candidates are not eligible for selection as military research personnel.
• On-campus dormitory available (out-of-pocket expenses by students).

UNIST Scholarship for Graduate Students Eligibility

To be admitted as a graduate student at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), applicants must:

1. Be willing to enroll in a master’s Program, Doctoral Program, or MS-PhD integrated program.
2. Meet admission requirements of their respective department.
3. Master’s / Master’s-PhD Integrated applicants: Must hold a bachelor’s degree or be expected to receive a bachelor’s degree by the first day of class, or have an equivalent educational background. The “Health Innovation and Entrepreneurship” major only accepts applicants with a medical doctor (or equivalent) Degree.
4. Doctoral applicants: Must hold a master’s degree or be expected to receive a master’s degree by the first day of class or have an equivalent educational background.
5. English language requirements: Applicants must submit one of the following tests with minimum scores: TOEIC (800), TOEFL iBT (80), TOEFL CBT (213), TOEFL PBT (550), IELTS (5.5), TEPS (640), G-TELP Level 2 (67), G-TELP Level 3 (89), G-TELP Speaking & TOEIC (270). Alternatively, submit a certificate stating that all bachelor’s or master’s degree courses were completed in 100% English, or be a native English speaker (US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, etc.).

How to Apply for the UNIST Scholarship

Graduate students at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology are awarded the UNIST scholarship. There is no separate application. Therefore, interested applicants for this Asia scholarship must follow the steps below to get admitted and automatically benefit from the UNIST scholarship.

1. Log in to the application processing agency—Login (First, create an account at U-WAY). Please click on the apply button below to access the platform.
2. Fill out the online application: You need an ID picture (3×4 cm) taken within the previous 3 months (only color photos are allowed).
3. Confirm the online application:
   • Fill out the ‘Application Form’ for admission, ‘Study Plan and Personal Statement,’ ‘Letter of Disclosure Agreement’ for academic background inquiry online, and ‘Check List of Documents’.
   • Download and fill out the ‘Recommendation Letter from others’ that is optionally submitted when applying for other scholarships.
4. Pay the application fee: KRW 50,000 for foreign nationals (including online application commission of KRW 5,000). KRW 80,000 for Korean nationals. The fee is non-refundable.
5. Upload required documents online:
   • Print out the online completed ‘Application Form’ for admission, ‘Study Plan and Personal Statement’, ‘Letter of Disclosure Agreement’, and ‘Check List of Documents’.
   • Collect together the documents, such as graduation (degree diploma) certificates, transcripts, official English proficiency scores, and additional documents with the printed documents in the order of the documents’ submission.
   • The documents are scanned and converted into a single (1) PDF file (maximum 32MB; file name: application number) and uploaded to the online application website.
6. Complete the online application: The admission number is automatically created after the completion of the application fee payment. The application cannot be modified after creating the application number.
7. After completing the application, print the admission ticket.

10. English Proficiency Score Report (required for Korean nationals in Energy and Chemical Engineering; optional for others; required for foreign nationals).
11. Proof of Excellence (optional).
12. Institutional Recommendation Letter (essential for other scholarship applicants supported by an employed organization; UNIST Form 3).
13. Certificate of Employment (essential for ICT Convergence Master’s Degree; optional for other scholarship applicants).
14. Certificate of small and medium-sized business (essential for ICT Convergence Master’s Degree).

Admission Schedule for 2027 Spring 2nd Entry

Note: The dates above are tentative and can be changed without prior notice. Interviews will be noticed by each applicant by each department after the announcement of the first stage result.

Important Notices

• After the online application deadline (October 15, 2026, at 18:00), applicants will not be able to modify or add any information to their applications. However, applicants may replace or re-upload submitted documents until the document submission deadline (October 16, 2026, at 18:00).
• Applicants who fail to comply with the noticed process or do not submit all required documents will be disqualified as incomplete submissions/documents. Applicants who fail to appear for the interview process will be disqualified.
• All submitted documents will not be returned in any circumstances.
• If any information in the application or the submitted materials is found to be false or counterfeit, the offer of admission may be revoked even after the applicant has enrolled in or graduated from UNIST.
