The UNIST Scholarship for Graduate Students is now open for application. The UNIST scholarship is awarded to admitted students in a graduate program at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) in South Korea.

The UNIST Scholarship for Graduate Students is open to both national and international students willing to pursue a Master, PhD, or MS-PhD degree program at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea.

The scholarship program provides tuition fees, and a monthly allowance and is available for various scientific areas. This is a unique opportunity to study in South Korea.

UNIST Scholarship for Graduate Students Benefits

Selected candidates for this university scholarship will have the following benefits:

  1. Tuition fee support (Tuition: KRW 3,840,000/semester) : Successful applicants pay the tuition at their own expense. When Stipend is paid during the semester, their advisors support the divided amount corresponding to the tuition.;
  2. Stipend Offer (Including tuition support amount) – Major in Science and Engineering:
    • Master: More than KRW 17,280,000/year;
    • PhD: More than KRW 20,880,000/year;
    • The above is based on the minimum amount and the additional amount can be provided differently according to the participating Lab.
  3. Stipend Offer (Including tuition support amount) – Major in Business Administration (Management Engineering):
    • Master: More than KRW 10,560,000/year;
    • PhD: More than KRW 12,420,000/year;
    • The School of Business Administration(Management Engineering) applies a separate standard for scholarships(cost of living expenses). The above is based on the minimum amount and the additional amount can be provided differently according to the participating Lab.
  4. On-campus accommodation is available for graduate students;
  5. Students pursuing Doctoral degree are eligible for technical research personnel recruitment (For Korean Students).

Note : Students pursuing a Doctoral degree are eligible for technical research personnel recruitment (For Korean Students). During their studies, some students may also receive the Teaching Assistant Scholarship as shown below.

Teaching Assistant Scholarship Amount

  • Head TA: Master’s 300,000 KRW per month, Doctoral 500,000 KRW per month
  • R TA: Master’s 200,000 KRW per month, Doctoral 300,000 KRW per month
  • TA : Master’s 150,000 KRW per month, Doctoral 250,000 KRW per month
  • The amount above is approximate and will change according to the plan.

Other Scholarship: Scholarship funded by Others (Company, Institution, Yourself, etc.)

  1. Tuition fees shall be paid. (Tuition: KRW 3,840,000/semester)
  2. Non-payment of Stipend
  3. Non-incorporated in Technical Research Personnel
  4. Dormitory on campus is available for graduate students.

UNIST Scholarship for Graduate Students Eligibility

To be admitted as a graduate student at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), applicants must:

  1. Be willing to enroll in a Master’s Program (4 semesters), Doctoral Program (6 semesters), or MS-PhD Program (10 semesters);
  2. Meet admission requirements of their respective department;
  3. Master’s program applicants must be candidates who have a bachelor’s degree or will be awarded a bachelor’s degree by the first day of class, or have an equivalent educational background;
  4. PhD program applicants must be candidates who have a master’s degree or will be awarded a master’s degree by the first day of class, or have an equivalent educational background;
  5. English language requirements. Applicants must:
    • be able to submit one of the following tests with a respective minimum scores: TOEIC – 800; TOEFL (IBT) – 80; TOEFL (CBT) – 213; TOEFL (PBT) – 550; IELTS – 5.5; TEPS – 640; (Level 2) – 67; G-TELP (Level 3) – 89; G-TELP (Speaking & TOEIC) – 270; OR
    • submit a certificate stating that all of their bachelor’s or master’s degree courses have been completed with 100% English language; OR
    • be native English speakers (US, Canada, U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, etc.).

Note : Applicants who are expected to obtain a degree from a Korean university or institution must obtain a degree before February 2025 for spring admission or August 2025 for fall admission. Applicants who are expected to obtain a degree from an overseas university or institution must obtain a degree before early January 2025 for spring admission or early July 2025 for fall admission.

How to Apply for the UNIST Scholarship

Graduate students at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology are awarded the UNIST scholarship. There is no separate application. Therefore, interested applicants for this Asia scholarship must follow the steps below to get admitted and automatically benefit from the UNIST scholarship.

  1. Log in to the application processing agency – Login (First, create an account). Please click on the apply button below to access the platform.
  2. Fill out the online application: You need an ID picture (3×4cm) taken within the previous 3 months (Black and white photo cannot be accepted, only color photo is allowed)
  3. Confirm the online application
    • Fill out the ‘Application Form’ for admission, ‘Study Plan and Personal Statement’, ‘Letter of Disclosure Agreement’ for academic background inquiry online, and ‘Check List of Documents’.
    • Download and fill out the ‘Recommendation Letter from others’ that is optionally submitted when applying for Other scholarship. (Fill out only those who need to submit. / Not applicable to most foreign applicants)
  4. Payment for Application fee
  5. Upload required documents online (Single(1) PDF file, Less than 32MB)
    • Print out the online completed ‘Application Form’ for admission, ‘Study Plan and Personal Statement’, ‘Letter of Disclosure Agreement’, and ‘Check List of Documents’.
    • Collect together the documents such as graduation(degree diploma) certificates, transcripts, official English proficiency scores, and additional documents with the printed documents in the order of the documents submission.
    • The documents are scanned and converted into a single(1) PDF file and uploaded to the online application website.(Click the ‘Upload Document’ Button)
  6. Complete the online application
    • The Admission number is automatically created after the completion of the application fee payment.
    • The application cannot be modified after creating the application number.
  7. After completing the application, print the admission ticket

Note : There is an application fee of KRW 50,000 (About USD 40). The application fee is for document screening only; no application fee is charged for interview evaluation. Applicants who apply for Doctoral course shall provide the advisor’s contact information. Evaluators can ask for a recommendation letter to the advisor of master’s degree.

The application is considered valid only after the payment of the application fee, and the application number will be automatically assigned upon completion of the application. After the application is completed (and the admission number is assigned), modifications to the application are not allowed.
