Government of the Czech Republic Scholarships

Provided by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 2027-2028 Government of the Czech Republic Scholarships are now open for application. The program is fully funded and available for citizens of developing countries to study at the Czech Republic higher education institutions. More than 20 thousand foreign students have already benefited from the program.

Candidates who choose to study the Czech language will need to attend a one-year language class. If you already have Czech at the B2 level, you can skip the preparatory year, but you must provide a certificate and pass the university’s admission procedure on your own. Those who choose to study in English will start their programs after their arrival. A scholarship from the Government of the Czech Republic for studies in the English language may only be granted if the applicant has a good command of English. An applicant for a scholarship from the Government of the Czech Republic is obliged to sit an online entrance English language test in the course of his/her application submission. The scholarship is available for master’s degree and PhD degree studies.

The scholarships are dedicated solely to promoting the studies of foreign nationals from developing third countries. Neither a citizen of the Czech Republic, a citizen of the European Union, nor any other foreign national with a permanent residence permit in the territory of the Czech Republic may therefore apply for a scholarship. The application is online, and you must also submit a motivation letter, your CV, a health certificate, and certified copies of your diplomas and transcripts. All documents must be translated into Czech by a sworn interpreter, unless your country cannot provide that, in which case English translations are accepted.

Program Details

• Host institutions: Public higher education institutions in the Czech Republic.
• Fields of study: Selected follow-up master’s programs (Czech or English) and selected doctoral programs (English only). Master’s programs in Czech must follow the list of recommended study areas published in the annual offer.
• Number of awards: Not specified.
• Duration: Follow-up master’s: 2–3 years (Czech) or 2 years (English). Doctoral: 3–4 years (English).
• Eligible countries: Open to citizens of the following countries: Bangladesh, Belarus (democratic forces), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Gabon, Georgia, Guatemala, Honduras, Mauritania, Palestine, Ukraine, and Zambia.

Government of the Czech Republic Scholarships Benefits

The program provides a scholarship that is enough to cover the necessary costs (accommodation, food and public transport, etc.) related to staying and studying in the Czech Republic. The amount is updated on a regular basis. The current amounts are as shown below:

1. Monthly stipend: CZK 16,000 for follow-up master’s students; CZK 24,960 for doctoral students. The amount may be adjusted by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
2. Health services: Reimbursed by the Ministry of Health, subject to the conditions in the Guidelines.
3. Travel expenses: Travel to the Czech Republic and back home after graduation is not covered by the scholarship. The student or the nominating party must pay for them.

Program Type and Duration

Within the scope of foreign development cooperation, the Czech Republic provides scholarships for:

• Pursued in the Czech language:
  • Follow-up master’s study programs (two to three years) in selected areas.
  • Language and preparatory studies (one year) at the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of Charles University.
• Pursued in the English language:
  • Selected follow-up master’s study programs (two years).
  • Selected Doctoral study programs (three to four years).

Government of the Czech Republic Scholarships Eligibility

This scholarship to study in the Czech Republic is dedicated solely to promoting the studies of foreign nationals from developing third countries. Therefore, applicants must

• be a foreigner and hold citizenship of one of the eligible countries listed above;
• Be a citizen of a developing third country (as defined in the annual call).
• Not be a citizen of the Czech Republic, an EU member state, or hold permanent residence in the Czech Republic.
• For follow-up master’s programs: have completed a bachelor’s program (or be in the final year).
• For doctoral programs: have completed a master’s programme.
• Submit a complete application with all required attachments by the deadline.

How to Apply for the Czech Republic Scholarships

Eligible applicants who would like to apply for this government scholarship should click on the apply button below create and account and follow instructions to submit their applications. Submit your application electronically by logging in to the platform after registrering using this https://studyin.gov.cz/. Click on the arrow at the right of the login button and select register to create your account. The application is considered complete only after the motivation letter has been submitted and all mandatory tests have been completed.

After the initial evaluation, selected applicants will be invited by the relevant Embassy of the Czech Republic to an interview and to submit the required documents in duplicate (certified translations into Czech, unless a certified English translation is accepted). The Embassy will forward final proposals to the Czech Republic in January 2027. Successful applicants will be informed by the end of June 2027.

Applicants who are already regular students in the Czech Republic at the time of the deadline may also apply, but their applications are assessed only after those from abroad. They must send a printed and personally signed application with a current confirmation of studies to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by 20 December 2026.

9. Proof that the institution is entitled to provide university education (certified translation into Czech).
10. Additional information about the content of foreign university education.

Required Documents for Doctoral Applicants (English)

1. Motivation Letter (2 A4 pages), including a description of the intended doctoral focus.
2. CV.
3. Photocopy of passport.
4. Signed declarations (Annexes 1–3).
5. Legalised copy of birth certificate with certified translation into Czech.
6. Medical confirmation (Annex No. 4), no more than 2 months old, with translation into English or Czech.
7. Legalised copy of foreign master’s diploma with Diploma Supplement, with apostille/superlegalization and certified translation into Czech.
8. List of completed subjects and examinations (if the master’s is incomplete).
9. Proof that the institution is entitled to provide university education (certified translation into Czech).
10. Overview of publication activity.
11. Ideas about the focus of the dissertation thesis (3–5 pages).
12. Two letters of recommendation from professors at an academic institution.
13. Other documents proving qualifications, advancement, and scholarly activity (if applicable).

Arrival and Post-Selection Obligations

Scholarship holders must arrange their arrival so they can commence studies on the date stated in the Decision on Granting a Scholarship. They must notify the International Student Office of their arrival at least 5 working days in advance. Upon arrival, they must register as government scholarship holders, submit a medical certificate of current health (no older than 3 months), and fulfill the statutory registration duty with the Alien Police Department within 3 working days. Initial financial costs of approximately CZK 5,000–8,000 should be covered from their own funds.

Scholarship holders are obliged to complete their studies within the standard period of study. If they exceed this period, they lose the scholarship and must pay all costs themselves. The scholarship ceases during absence from the Czech Republic for more than 30 consecutive days (unless for study obligations or holidays), during study interruption, or if the holder obtains permanent residence.
