Are you willing to study in Italy? Politecnico di Milano has opened its merit-based international scholarship call for the 2027-2028 academic year. The awards range from full tuition waivers to monthly allowances of up to €10,000 gross per year. Some come as cash. Some come as relief. The university wants the best international students, and it is putting money behind that wish.
The beneficiaries will be selected among those who applied online and have been admitted to one of the Master of Science programs offered at Politecnico di Milano. You must have submitted your admission application and paid the application fee between October 1st, 2026, and December 1st, 2026. Only international students who have already applied for admission to the MSc program may apply to participate in this scholarship call. The application form must be submitted from October 1st, 2026, until 12:00 noon (Italian time) on December 15th, 2026, through Politecnico di Milano Online Services. No other method of application will be accepted under penalty of disqualification.
Founded in 1863, the Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano) is the largest technical university in Italy. The oldest university in Milan hosts about 42,000 students and offers undergraduate, graduate, and higher education courses in engineering, architecture, and design. The university has two main campuses in Milan, where most research and teaching happen, plus satellite campuses in Cremona, Lecco, Mantova, and Piacenza.

Polytechnic University of Milan Scholarships Benefits
All merit-based international scholarships include a tuition fee waiver for the academic year for which they are assigned. Some also provide a gross cash allowance. Here is what is available across the different campuses.
Note : All scholarships include a full tuition-fee waiver. Some also provide an additional gross allowance up to €10,000/year. Scholarships are awarded by a specific commission appointed by the executive decree of the head of the campus life area. The Commission gives priority to candidates from countries that have been the victims of military aggression or are affected by civil wars. It also considers merit-based criteria, geographic origin, gender balance, and age. In the event of a tie, priority goes to the younger candidate.
Milano Campuses : Platinum and Gold Scholarships
All international students who apply to the first year of Master of Science programs taught in English at the Milano Leonardo or Milano Bovisa Campuses for the academic year 2027-2028 are eligible to apply for these scholarships:
- 10 Platinum Scholarships of €10,000 gross per year. Disbursed in two installments of €5,000. The second installment requires having taken at least two exams during the first scholarship semester.
- 18 Gold Scholarships of €8,000 gross per year. Disbursed in two installments of €4,000. The second installment requires having taken at least one exam during the first scholarship semester.
Piacenza Campus : Gold and Bronze Scholarships
16 Gold Piacenza Campus Scholarships: All international students who apply to the first year of Master of Science programs in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design (SAL), Landscape Architecture – Land Landscape Heritage (LLH), or Energy Engineering (Renewables and Environmental Sustainability RES) taught in English at the Piacenza Campus for the academic year 2027-2028 can apply. The amount is €5,000 gross. Disbursed in two installments of €2,500. The second installment requires having taken at least one exam during the first scholarship semester.
10 Bronze Piacenza Campus Scholarships: All international students who apply to the first year of the Master of Science program in Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics for Manufacturing) taught in English on Piacenza Campus for the academic year 2027-2028 are eligible to apply. The amount is €2,500 gross, disbursed in a single installment at the beginning of the semester.
Cremona, Lecco, Mantova, Piacenza Campuses : Silver Scholarships
The Silver Scholarships consist of exemption from tuition fees payment for the entire academic year that they are assigned for, with the exception of the administrative fee and insurance. All international students who apply to the first year of Master of Science programs taught in English on the Cremona, Lecco, Mantova, or Piacenza campuses for the academic year 2027-2028 can apply.
Note : The outcome will be communicated to the email address provided at the time of the admission application within three to four months after the application deadline. Within the deadlines specified in the scholarship award email, recipients must accept the scholarship by paying only the administrative fee, which amounts to approximately €190.00, following the instructions provided by the Student Affairs Office. If the administrative fee is not paid by the deadline, the scholarship will be considered not accepted. Recipients must enroll in the academic year for which the scholarship is assigned. If they do not enroll, they will lose the scholarship, even if previously accepted.
Payment details
To receive the scholarship amount, recipients must upload their IBAN code, if not already uploaded, on their online services. The IBAN must be linked to one of the following:
- An Italian bank account or one belonging to the SEPA Area (Single Euro Payments Area), held in the student’s name;
- An Italian bank account or a SEPA Area one jointly held in the student’s name and that of a family member or another person;
- A prepaid card (linked to an Italian bank account or a SEPA Area one), held only in the student’s name. The prepaid card must have a minimum credit limit equal to or higher than the scholarship amount.
Other Opportunities
Renewal
The scholarships assigned for 2027-2028 can be renewed for the 2028-2029 academic year. To renew, the sum of academic grades obtained during exams multiplied by their corresponding ECTS must be equal to or higher than the following points by August 10th, 2028:
- Platinum: 1,000 points
- Gold, Bronze, Silver: 700 points
Extra ECTS, internships, and ECTS gained through a separate academic career (credits marked with “C” on the study plan) do not count. The recipient must continue in the same Master of Science program for which the scholarship was awarded. If renewed, the student enrolls in 2028-2029 by paying only the administrative fee. If not renewed, the student pays both the administrative fee and tuition fees.
Eligibility Criteria for the Polytechnic University of Milan Scholarships
The selection criteria are based on the evaluation of your previous education and its match with the requirements for the master’s degree program you have chosen. GPA and academic achievements, including the portfolio when requested, matter. A well-written motivation letter helps. The Commission considers only applicants who have been admitted to the degree program and who accept the results of the evaluation. This means candidates who have accepted the outcome of their admission application and uploaded a valid language certificate, verified by the International Students Office.
Incompatibility, Withdrawal, and Suspension
The Merit Based International Scholarship is incompatible with other scholarships awarded by Politecnico di Milano or by any other public or private entity, Italian or foreign, except those issued for participation in international mobility programs. If assigned another incompatible scholarship, the student must exercise the right of choice within ten days of the most recent award by emailing [email protected], declaring which scholarship to keep and which to decline. If the right of choice is not exercised within that period, all benefits will be automatically suspended.
If the recipient withdraws from the study program before the end of the academic year for which the scholarship was assigned, they lose the right to the scholarship and must return the amount received up to the date of withdrawal. Withdrawal must be promptly notified to the Financial Aid Unit by emailing [email protected].
If the recipient decides to temporarily suspend studies, they can request suspension of scholarship benefits by emailing [email protected]. If granted, suspension cannot last more than one academic year.

These university scholarships are awarded to those who applied for admission to a Master’s degree program by the specified deadlines. Interested applicants should contact the university and apply to their chosen program before the deadline. The application form for the scholarship itself must be submitted through Politecnico di Milano Online Services between October 1st 2026 and 12:00 noon (Italian time) on December 15th 2026.
