The Curatorial Internship in Canada offers aspiring curators a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to receive hands-on experience in the field of contemporary art. The program is intended for recent graduates and early-career professionals interested in pursuing a career in curatorial work. Interns in this program get the chance to work with seasoned curators and gallery employees and get an insight into the inner work of modern art institutions.

The curatorial internship program is designed to share the CCA’s expertise with students and young professionals in architecture, the design disciplines, the arts, the humanities, and cultural studies who are interested in exploring editorial and curatorial work in architecture. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the CCA’s curatorial approach, in particular, its collection, exhibitions, editorial projects, and research programs through a nine-month internship in Montréal beginning in October 2024

The program provides a range of internships, each focusing on a different aspect of curatorial work. Interns may assist with research projects, exhibitions, instructional activities, and events. Selected applicants may also have the opportunity to work with artists and contribute to creating new shows. Interns will then develop skills and knowledge while also making important connections in the art world that might help them begin their careers in curatorial work.

Curatorial Internship in Canada Benefits

Selected applicants for this Canada internship program will receive a monthly allowance of 2,500 CAD over a period of nine months, calculated to defray the costs of living in Montreal (subject to the income tax laws of Canada and Quebec if applicable).

Curatorial Internship Program Eligibility

This internship program is open to students and young professionals of all countries of the world regardless of the place of residence who:

• are (30) years of age or younger on 1 January 2024
• have completed or enrolled in a university-level program.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Chief Curator, the interns will collaborate in the research for and preparation of exhibitions, publications, educational initiatives, public programs, and communications and collection activities.
