Candidates can now apply for the Prize for Innovation in Global Security by GCSP. The Prize has been created by to recognize deserving individuals or organizations that have an innovative approach to addressing international security challenges. The prize is designed to reach across all relevant disciplines and fields. It seeks to reward the most inspiring, innovative and ground-breaking contribution of the year, whether this comes in the form of an initiative, invention, research publication, or organization.
The prize is awarded for groundbreaking concepts by any individual, group of individuals, or organisation (from private or public sectors), that offer exceptional potential in addressing peace and security challenges. Applications may come from any country, but the potential impact of the concept should go beyond national borders in its reach or thinking and seek to address global peace and security challenges in innovative and creative ways.
The prize is intended to encourage and recognize excellence in contributing to new approaches to enhancing sustainable global peace and security. The prize is awarded by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), as part of its Geopolitics and Global Futures Programme Department and its Creative Spark Incubator, under the Creativity and Innovation Initiative. A broad range of projects could qualify for consideration, including, but not limited to, technological and conceptual innovations, original research or grassroots initiatives.

Prize for Innovation in Global Security Benefits
The prize for the application coming in the first position is a fully funded 2-month incubation programme within GCSP’s Creative Spark in Geneva (worth 15’000 CHF, to be completed within a year of the award of the Prize) and a certificate of excellence. The two other finalist applications will receive a certificate of recognition. No equivalent or alternative will be provided.
The organizers reserve the right to oblige any potential winner to provide information such that the organizers might be satisfied with the rigor and integrity of the work, as well as the compliance of the project concept with the goal of sustainable global peace and security. If a winner is announced as one of the top three applications but is disqualified for any reason before receipt of the prize, the organizers may, at their sole discretion, declare another winner.
Prize for Innovation in Global Security Eligibility
The prize is awarded for groundbreaking concepts by any individual, group of individuals, or organisation (from private or public sectors), that offer exceptional potential in addressing peace and security challenge, and has been submitted for consideration according to rules and regulations. No more than one application per applicant is allowed.
Applications may come from any country, but the project should go beyond national borders in its reach or thinking, and must seek to address global security in innovative ways or through new ideas. A broad range of projects could qualify for consideration, including, but not limited to, technological and conceptual innovations, original research or grassroot initiatives.
Note : Employees, staff, current fellows and current participants of the GCSP, as well as their family members, are not eligible participants. For the above categories to be eligible participants, a period of 1 year since the termination of the relationship with the GCSP must be respected.
The panel of judges will select the winners (first, second and third place), and the selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Dedication to sustainable global peace and security;
- Creativity;
- Originality;
- Transformative potential;
- Sustainability;
- Incubation potential;
- Implementation potential;
- Potential impact on peace and security.

Application instructions
Eligible candidates who would like to apply for this prize must click on the apply button below and follow the given instructions to submit their applications. For your application to be valid, it must be submitted via the online application form, filled in English and shall include:
- a project concept abstract of 250 words maximum;
- a well-developed project concept description which should not exceed 750 words in length;
- a description of the technical process of the project concept submitted (if applicable);
- an estimate of the budget required for the project concept;
- an explanation of how the project concept provides a novel contribution to the field of global peace and security;
- a description of the short-term and long-term impact of the project concept in the field of global peace and security;
- up to five image files (optional).
- Applications submitted via any other channel will not be considered.
The winners (first, second and third place) will be notified immediately prior to the public announcement, using the means of contact provided upon application. The public announcement will be done during an event to be held in May 2024.
