Applications are now open for the Amsterdam Merit Scholarships. The scholarship program is meant for outstanding international students from outside the European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their Master’s degree program at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Through the Amsterdam Merit Scholarships (AMS), the university aims to attract the world’s brightest students to its international classrooms. This university scholarship is partially funded and provides up to €25,000 plus tuition fees in some cases. To be considered for the scholarship, candidates are required to apply for their chosen Master’s program before the deadline and follow the given instructions of their Graduate Schools to submit their scholarship application.

Established in 1632, the University of Amsterdam (Universiteit van Amsterdam – UvA) is a public research university in Amsterdam. UvA is one of the largest research universities in Europe and is home to more than 30,000 students. The university has Economics, Business, Humanities, Medicine, Dentistry, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Science and Law faculties. Amsterdam Merit Scholarships Benefits

Selected candidates for this scholarship to study in the Netherlands will receive an amount which value is up to €25,000 depending on the faculty, plus tuition fees in some cases. However, it can be supplemented by other scholarships and funding available at the University of Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Merit Scholarships Eligibility

To apply for the AMS Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • hold a non-EEA nationality or nationalities only;
  • not be entitled to receive a Dutch study grant or loan ( Studiefinanciering);
  • not be eligible to pay the reduced tuition fee rate for EEA students at the UvA;
  • not receive a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study as the AMS scholarship;
  • have submitted a complete application to one of the master’s programmes of the UvA;
  • have been (or will be) admitted to one of the Master’s programmes of the UvA;
  • be able to comply with the conditions to obtain a Dutch visa (if applicable).
