Applications are being received for scholarships to attend the 25th International AIDS Conference which will take place in Munich, Germany, and virtually from 22 to 26 July 2024. The 25th International AIDS Conference Scholarship Programme provides financial assistance to selected applicants from around the world to attend AIDS 2024 in person or virtually. The scholarship also supports attendance to the AIDS 2024 pre-conferences, which take place on July 20 and 21 July at the conference venue.

The International AIDS Conference Scholarship is open to anyone working or volunteering in the area of HIV and who is at least 18 years old on 20 July 2024. You will be required to demonstrate that you will transfer the skills and knowledge acquired at the conference to the work you undertake in your own organization and community.

The programme is intended for individuals who would otherwise not have the financial means to attend AIDS 2024. It supports applicants who contribute to the conference programme, as well as those who can demonstrate that they will transfer the skills and knowledge acquired at the conference to the work they undertake in their own organizations and communities.

25th International AIDS Conference Scholarship Benefits

Not all of the financial support requested (registration, travel, accommodation and daily living allowance for in-person attendance, or registration and in some cases accessibility support for virtual attendance) may be granted. Full scholarships will be awarded in a limited number of cases.

In-person attendance:

  • Registration for in-person plus virtual attendance (access to all sessions at the conference venue, as well as access to the virtual platform)
  • Travel support (pre-paid economy class return ticket from the nearest international airport in your country of residence) for the dates of the conference and pre-conferences
  • Accommodation (single room in a budget hotel) for the duration of the conference and pre-conferences
  • Daily living allowance for the duration of the conference and pre-conferences

Virtual attendance:

  • Registration for virtual attendance (full online access to all hybrid conference sessions)
  • Accessibility support for virtual attendance (subject to the connectivity needs of selected candidates)

The AIDS 2024 Scholarship Programme will not reimburse any costs you have incurred prior to receiving a scholarship. Therefore, you are advised to avoid pre-booking accommodation or flights or registering for the conference if you have requested this type of financial support in your application. If you are selected for the scholarship and the full financial support you requested is granted, the program will not be able to reimburse you for these costs.

All applicants who completed an application but were not granted a scholarship will be able to register for the conference at the early registration fee for two weeks after the results are announced.

Participation in the conference programme

General delegates or abstract presenters, workshop facilitators, co-facilitators, Global Village organizers, and co-organizers who need support to attend AIDS 2024 are encouraged to apply for a scholarship. If you are submitting an abstract on behalf of someone else, please make sure that they apply for a scholarship before 23 January 2024, 23:59 CET. The abstract presenter must use the same email address in the abstract submission and in the scholarship application so that the two can be linked.

The scholarship is connected to the abstract presenter. If the abstract presenter changes, the scholarship is cancelled unless a request is made to transfer the grant to the new presenter. The deadline to request this transfer is 1 June 2024. If the abstract is withdrawn, the scholarship is subsequently cancelled.

25th International AIDS Conference Scholarship Eligibility

The Conference on HIV Scholarship is open to anyone working or volunteering in the field of HIV and who is at least 18 years old on 20 July 2024. Priority will be given to:

  • Abstract presenters; workshop facilitators and co-facilitators; and Global Village organizers and co-organizers whose submission has been selected for the conference
  • Applicants from low- and middle-income countries
  • Applicants who are part of key populations and people living with HIV
  • Young people and junior investigators below the age of 35
  • Applicants who did not previously receive a scholarship for an International AIDS Conference.

Note : Scholarship recipients must be available to attend for the full duration of the conference and pre-conferences (20 to 26 July 2024, inclusive).

How to Apply for the 25th International AIDS Conference Scholarship

Applicants will have to answer questions about their background, experience and motivation to attend the conference. They will have to upload a letter of recommendation, which must:

  • Be written in English by a manager or colleague who is familiar with your work, volunteer experience or studies in HIV and can be your referee
  • Include a letterhead of your referee’s organization, company or institution
  • Be dated within two months of your application submission and signed (original or digital signature) by your referee
  • Explicitly reference you and support your scholarship application for AIDS 2024, explaining why you would be a good candidate for the scholarship

Note : Please ensure that the uploaded documents are fully legible and open correctly. If not, your application will be considered invalid. In the application form, candidates will be able to indicate what attendance type they prefer and request different types of financial support.
