The NSERC Indigenous Student Ambassadors program, previously called Aboriginal Ambassadors in the Natural Sciences and Engineering (AANSE) award, aims to engage Aboriginal students and fellows in promoting interest and participation in the natural sciences and engineering by visiting Canada’s Aboriginal communities and schools and sharing their research and educational experiences and participating in science promotion events and activities.

This Canada program has been created by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to encourage more Indigenous peoples to work in the natural sciences and engineering sectors and to support the development of a more inclusive and varied research community in Canada. Selected applicants have a chance to engage in a range of activities and events that promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education within Indigenous communities. They can also serve as role models and mentors to other Indigenous students, sharing their experiences and motivating others to pursue careers in STEM disciplines.
