Applications are now open for the Université de Montréal International Student Scholarship Program. The Scholarship has been created by the university to help international students cover additional tuition fees. The scholarship is available for foreign students willing to undertake studies at undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD degree programs at the University of Montreal, Canada.

This North America scholarship program aims to help the best talents from around the world attend one of the finest francophone research universities in the world. Selected candidates could benefit from an exemption from the tuition fees normally charged to international students, starting in the 2024 summer, 2024 fall, and 2025 winter semesters. Founded in 1878, The Université de Montréal (UdeM) is a public research university in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The university has thirteen faculties, and more than sixty departments, and offers more than 650 undergraduate programs and graduate programs, including 71 doctoral programs. The school also has two affiliated schools: the Polytechnique Montréal (School of Engineering; formerly the École Polytechnique de Montréal) and HEC Montréal (School of Business).

Université de Montréal International Student Scholarship Benefits

Selected applicants for this university scholarship program will receive various scholarship amount depending on the level the won. The excellence of your academic record is the only evaluation criterion to determine the value of the scholarship. This assessment is made based on the transcripts provided during the admission application. The results of the assessment will determine the amount to which you may be entitled. If after the assessment, your file does not qualify for any level, you will not benefit from the UdeM exemption scholarship.

Undergraduate programs

  • Level A: $13,340.40 per year (2 sessions, equivalent to 30 credits) or $6,670.20 per session (15 credits) or $444.68 per credit
  • Level B: $6,357.60 per year (2 sessions, equivalent to 30 credits) or $3,178.80 per session (15 credits) or $211.92 per credit.

These amounts are applied to tuition fees of $27,101.70 per year (30 credits).

Master’s degree programs

Non-research : $10,474.65 per year (3 sessions, equivalent to 45 credits) or $3,491.55 per session (equivalent to 15 credits) or $232.77 per credit. This amount is applied to tuition fees of $30,829.50 per year (45 credits).

  • Research : $10,347.75 per year (3 sessions, equivalent to 45 credits) or $3,449.25 per session (equivalent to 15 credits) or $229.95 per credit.
  • Research (starting with the fall 2024 session) : $15,149.70 per year (3 sessions, equivalent to 45 credits) or $5,049.90 per session (equivalent to 15 credits) or $336.66 per credit.

This amount is applied to tuition fees of $29,592 per year (45 credits). For the writing and correction sessions, the same tuition fees as those charged to Québec students will be applied.

PhD degree programs

This exemption bursary allows you to benefit from the same tuition fees as Québec graduate studies students. $22,241.25 per year (3 sessions, equivalent to 45 credits) or $7,413.75 per session (equivalent to 15 credits) or $494.25 per credit for the entire duration of your studies. This amount is applied to the tuition fees of $26,562.60 per year (45 credits). For the writing and correction sessions, the same tuition fees as those charged to Québec students will be applied.

Université de Montréal International Student Scholarship Eligibility

The UdeM exemption scholarship is intended for international students (except French and French-speaking Belgian students). To be eligible, the candidate must:

  • have received an offer of admission to a study program at UdeM as of Fall 2020
  • have valid study authorizations (CAQ and study permit) for all sessions of their study program. For more information, please see the web page on immigration procedures
  • be continuously enrolled full time (unless absence is approved) for their entire study program
  • not benefit from another form of tuition fee exemption
  • not enroll in an independent study program
  • not be admitted to the following undergraduate programs starting with the Winter 2024 session: certificate, major, minor, short program and preparatory year program for university studies

If one of the above conditions is not met, the UdeM exemption scholarship may be withdrawn.

  3. Receive the notice of award with the amount.
  4. Complete and submit the declaration form.
