Applications are currently being received for the ICIPE Master and PhD Scholarship for African students. Offered by the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), the African Regional Postgraduate Program in Insect Sciences (ARPPIS) is a comprehensive Master’s and PhD scholarship program aimed at empowering African scholars with knowledge and skills in the field of insect sciences. This scholarship program has been created to provide high-quality education, research training, and mentorship from experienced scientists in the field to African students, with the purpose of tackling the continent’s concerns of food security, environmental sustainability, and public health.

The ARPPIS scholarship program provides a unique opportunity for African nationals willing to pursue advanced studies in the field of insect sciences, which is critical to sustainable development on the continent. Positions are available at icipe to work innovations in the vegetable integrated push-pull technology and black soldier fly farming, as a One Health package that will increase production of cereals, the main staples for most households; as well as high-value vegetables, poultry, and fish, which will augment the region’s largely starch-based diets, thus countering malnutrition and hidden hunger while protecting the environment.

The program includes research in entomology, ecology, biotechnology, and integrated pest control, among other fields. The scholarship also promotes gender balance by encouraging more female candidates to apply. The curriculum places a significant emphasis on practical research training and encourages researchers to create novel answers to some of the continent’s most pressing problems. ARPPIS graduates are well-prepared to pursue successful careers in academia, research, industry, and government, and to contribute significantly to sustainable development in their home countries and beyond.
