The Government of India Ph.D. Fellowship for ASEAN Students is a newly launched program for ASEAN Students to pursue. The program will offer 1000 scholarships over a period of time to citizens of ASEAN countries. The scholarship will provide support for a maximum of 5 years and is only available for Ph.D. studies.
Only citizens of Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Vietnam are eligible to apply for the Government of India Ph.D. Fellowship. The first announcement of this scholarship was made by the honorable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, in the presence of the heads of all 10 ASEAN countries, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the warm and friendly ties between India and ASEAN.

- Fields of Study: available subjects at IITs.

Government of India PhD Fellowship Benefits
The fellowship covers the entire cost of study and living expenses for up to 5 years of the PhD program. It provides an additional contingency fund to cover research expenses such as travel and books.
- Stipend per month: INR 31,000 for the first 2 years, INR 35,000 for the next three years
- Research grant Up to INR 170,000 for research expenses such as travel, books, contingency
- Accommodation/Monthly House Rent Allowance Up to 24% – as per Govt. norms (depending on the city) – of the stipend, if hostel accommodation not provided.

To participate in the Government of India Ph.D. Fellowship, the applicant must be a citizen of an eligible country (checklist above) and meet admission requirements for the program they are applying for. Furthermore, they must meet the language requirements for admission at the chosen Indian Institute of Technology.
