The Yenching Academy of Peking University is now accepting applications for the 2027 cohort. This is a fully funded, interdisciplinary master’s program in China Studies designed for young leaders who want to understand China’s role in the world. The application deadline is 30 November 2026 at 9:00 AM Beijing time. If you are a non-Chinese citizen or from Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan, and you have a strong academic record and leadership potential, this might be for you.
The program enrolls approximately 120 students each year, with international students making up about 75% of the cohort. The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend, one round-trip travel fare, and field study costs. It is a fully sponsored program. You do not pay tuition. The Academy offers a wide array of interdisciplinary courses on China within the humanities and social sciences. Scholars create their own study paths by choosing courses from six research areas.
There is a catch for applicants of Chinese heritage: if you were formerly a citizen of the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan and are applying as an international student, you must have held your current passport or citizenship documents since before 30 April 2021, and you need proof of renunciation of Chinese nationality. The National Immigration Administration determines whether you still hold Chinese citizenship. If you do, your application, admission offer, and enrollment will be nullified. Check this carefully before applying.
Selected candidates participate in a variety of extracurricular activities and field studies, organized by the Yenching Academy and designed by scholars themselves. Studying at the Academy is an exceptional opportunity to take part in intercultural exchanges and interdisciplinary learning, developing both personally and professionally. Yenching Academy annually enrolls approximately 120 students, with 80% of the student body being international students.
