Applications are open for the academic year 2025-2026 Slovak Republic Bilateral Scholarship program. The Slovak Scholarship is offered by the Ministry of Education, Science, research and Sport of the Slovak Republic to foreign nationals, based on bilateral agreements (between the governments/ministries).

Slovakia Scholarship aims to support the mobility of students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists. The length of the scholarship is generally 3 to 10 months. The categories of eligible recipients (students on bachelor/master level/researchers/ teachers /PhD students) depend upon the agreement with the country.

If not specified otherwise, the stays shall take place no earlier than 15 September 2025 and no later than 28 August 2026. The Ministry reserves the right to change the requested term of scholarship and/or place any applicant into a course and/or higher education institution different from those indicated in his/her scholarship application form, if admission, as requested by the applicant, is not feasible.

Slovak Republic Bilateral Scholarship Benefits

Coverage and financial responsibilities of the Slovakia scholarship are specified in agreements between parties. The amount of the monthly scholarship for the academic year 2025-2026, if not specified otherwise in bilateral agreement:

  1. Students (Bachelor / Master’s degree level): 620 € per month.
  2. PhD students: 1025,50 € per month.
  3. University teachers or researchers (without a PhD or equivalent): 1025,50 € per month.
  4. University teachers or researchers (with a PhD or equivalent): 1420 € per month.

Slovak Republic Bilateral Scholarship Eligibility

To apply for the Slovak Bilateral Scholarship, applicants must be citizens of the countries listed above. The scholarship is usually designed for study stays of students (Bachelor’s/master level) and/or research stays of PhD students. The scholarship cannot be awarded for a complete course of study leading to a degree (unless stated otherwise in the agreement).

How to Apply for the Slovak Republic Bilateral Scholarship

Eligible candidates who would like to apply for this government scholarship must download the application form, fill it, sign it and send one original and one copy together with all the supporting documentation requested in the application form to their national authority.

  • Scholarships are awarded to applicants nominated by the competent authorities of eligible countries.
  • National authorities are either education ministries and/or respective agencies designated by the ministries in the home country. Please click here to see the list of national authorities with their respective scholarship quotas and application deadlines.
  • Applications sent by individual applicants directly to the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic will not be processed.

Required Documents

  1. structured curriculum vitae,
  2. motivation letter (stating the personal and professional motivation of the applicant for the stay in Slovakia),
  3. detailed study, teaching or research programme proposal,
  4. invitation letter or letter of acceptance from the host institution (if applicable)
  5. recommendation(s):
    • students (bachelor/master level): 2 recommendations from university teachers of the university that issued the transcript of study records,
    • PhD students: 1 recommendation from the PhD thesis supervisor,
    • University teachers and researchers: 1 recommendation from the home institution (head of department, leader of the research group etc.)
    • in case of students (bachelor/master level): transcript of study records for up to now study at the home institution,
    • In the case of PhD students, university teachers and researchers: list of own publications related to the research programme of the stay,
    • Photo of size 3,5 cm x 4 cm (passport style photo) attached to each the original and the copy of the application form.
  6. A copy of the passport in case of students from third countries.

The competent authorities of eligible countries are responsible for the selection process of nominees. The nomination letter (including the list of nominees) must be delivered to the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic at the latest on , if not specified otherwise.
