Applications for the Chinese Government Scholarship at Wuhan University will be received from November 15, 2023. The CSC Chinese University Program is fully funded and aims to attract international students to undertake studies at Wuhan University, China.

The scholarship is available for all qualified individuals willing to study in China at Master’s and PhD level. The Chinese Government Scholarship Chinese University Program is established by the Ministry of Education to support Chinese universities to attract outstanding international students for graduate studies in China.

Funded in 1893, Wuhan University (WHU, 武汉大学 – Wǔhàn Dàxué) is a prestigious research university in Wuhan, Hubei, China. WHU is one of the designated Chinese universities to admit foreign students under the Chinese Government Scholarship. The university has a very well-known reputation for research in the fields of hydraulic engineering, remote sensing, social sciences, and survey engineering.

Chinese Government Scholarship at Wuhan University Eligibility

To apply for the CSC scholarship at Wuhan University, Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China.
  2. be in good health both mentally and physically.
  3. Applicants who apply for a Master’s degree should be under 35 years old and have a Bachelor’s degree.
  4. Applicants who apply for a doctoral degree should be under 40 years old and have a Master’s degree.
  5. Applicants should not be in possession of any other types of scholarship.
  6. Language requirements:
    1. Applicants who have passed HSK Level 5 or above can apply for major study directly, and those who have passed the HSK Level 4 can apply to take Chinese language courses for one year first, then move on to the major study after meeting the requirement.
    2. Those who have used Chinese as the language of instruction to obtain a degree in a Chinese university are not required to provide proof of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), but must provide a proof of the Chinese language of instruction.
    3. Provide a report of English Language Test when applying for English-taught master’s or doctoral programs (TOEFL 80+/IELTS 6.0+)
    4. Those who cannot offer the above-mentioned standard English test results, can provide proof of studying at a previous institution where the teaching language is English, and they will be required to participate in an additional oral or written English test organized by Wuhan University.
    5. Native English-speaking applicants can be exempted from providing the above English proficiency certificate.
    6. Applicants for English-medium graduate program of clinical medicine should have HSK Level four or above certificate. Those applicants who have not reached HSK Level four can apply to take Chinese language training courses for one year, and then move on to their degree study after meeting the requirement.

How to Apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship at Wuhan University

Eligible candidates who would like to apply for this scholarships to study in Asia must follow steps below:

Step 1: CSC online registration

Register and submit your online application at https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/ and choose program Type B (which refers to scholarship programs responsible by Chinese universities under Chinese Government Scholarship). The agent No. of Wuhan University is 10486 (more info here). Please download and print a hard copy of the “Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship” after you complete the form.

Step 2: Wuhan University online registration

Register and submit your online application at Wuhan University Online Application System for International. Please choose sources of funds — Chinese Government Program. After completing the online application, please download and print a hard copy of the “Application Form for International Students of Wuhan University”. Once submitted, amendments cannot be made on the application.

Step 3: Pre-admission notice submission

Candidates who have obtained the recommended qualification of Wuhan University shall submit a pre-admission notice issued by Wuhan University and other additional documents at Chinese Government Scholarship online system before March 15, 2024.

Application Materials

  1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (filled in Chinese or English online).
  2. Application Form for International Students of Wuhan University (filled in Chinese or English online);
  3. Copy of Passport Home Page. If the passport expires before March 1 2025, please apply for a new passport before submitting the application.
  4. Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status from their current school.
  5. Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from the first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department.
  6. Language qualification certificates. Applicants shall provide relevant language proficiency certificates according to the university’s requirements.
  7. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.
  8. A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy shall be kept by the applicant).
  9. Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
  10. An acceptance letter from the professor of Wuhan University (click here to download the form), filled in Chinese or English (if available). Contact information of some professor can be found here.
  11. A study plan proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1,000 characters or words; The content of the plan shall include completely and clearly your personal introduction, education experience, the purpose of study in China, your knowledge about China and Wuhan university, study plan, research direction, and future development vision. Please use this template;
  12. Recommendation letters. Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth.
  13. For art and design-related majors, applicants could submit their own works through “Example of Art/Other Supporting Documents” in the system.
  14. Other additional documents (e.g. certificate of work or internship, award, publications).

Note: There is no application fee when applying for the Chinese Government Scholarship – University Program at Wuhan University. Applicants should apply directly to Wuhan University and cannot submit application documents through any intermediary agencies. Documents must be clear, authentic and valid. Please use a professional device to scan your documents. Applicants shall bear the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable uploaded materials.

Note : All documents must be in Chinese or English. Therefore, all documents in other languages must be attached with their notarized translation in Chinese or English. Wuhan University will inform and send the admission documents (Admission Letter and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to scholarship winners around the end of July 2024.
