Applications are currently being received for the York Academy of Sciences virtual mentoring program. 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures was designed specifically for young women—it’s tailored to address your particular needs and questions, so that you can overcome any challenge you face and succeed.

You will work to complete challenge modules focused on 21st century skills development. During this time you will learn from mentors in the network who can answer questions and provide you with advice. The program is built with flexibility in mind, so that you and your mentors have enough time to work around your busy schedules.

York Academy of Sciences virtual mentoring program Benefits

1000 Girls, 1000 Futures connects STEM-focused high school girls to dynamic, motivated female mentors during a year-long virtual science education program. Participants gain access to innovative programming focused on developing essential 21st century skills and become part of a strong network of female STEM leaders from around the world! Students must be female identifying in order to participate in this program.

The Junior Academy introduces exceptional students to an online community where they gain access to best-in-class STEM resources and work together to solve real-world problems. STEM professionals mentor student teams during 60-day innovation challenges, with multiple challenges a year for participants to choose from.

York Academy of Sciences virtual mentoring program Eligibility

1000 Girls 1000 Futures participants are enthusiastic learners with a passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

  • Age: 13–17 years old.
  • Location: Anywhere in the world.
  • Language: All program content and communication on the platform is in English, and a strong level of English proficiency is required. Students’ English proficiency will be assessed during the application process.
  • Materials: 1000 Girls 1000 Futures is a virtual program. To participate, students must have access to at least one communication device, such as a smartphone, tablet, laptop, computer, with an internet connection.
  • Time Commitment: Students will complete at least two self-paced learning modules during the program year, from September to May. Each module usually requires three to fours each week to complete.
  • Cost: None. 1000 Girls 1000 Futures is completely free for participating students.
