The scholarship aims to attract international students to pursue a Master’s and PhD degree studies at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen, China.
Similar to the ANSO program for international students, this scholarship is a unique and prestigious scholarship to study in Asia (China). All programs are taught in English and scholarships are offered for PhD or Integrated Master-PhD programs.
SUSTech is a young public university founded by the Shenzhen Municipal Government. The university aims to be globally-renowned by contributing to the advancement of science and technology by excelling in interdisciplinary research. In the Nature Index 2016 Rising Stars rankings, SUSTech was ranked 62nd among the global top 100 institutions; it ranked as the third fastest growing institution in the world in 2018.

SUSTech Integrated Master-PhD and PhD Scholarships Benefits
All graduate students admitted by SUSTech will be awarded the SUSTech scholarship. Master study period fee applies to the Master study period (first two years of the five-year study period) of Integrated Master-PhD program students. This university scholarship program the following benefits.
- Integrated Master-Doctoral Program students will receive a total Stipend of 4,166 / month, for up to 2 years (during the Master’s study period) and 8,333 / month during the Doctoral study period (normally up to 3 years).
- Doctoral students will receive a total Stipend of 8,333 / month, for up to 4 years.
Please note that all successfully enrolled students will be required to pay the following fees:
- Doctoral Program: a tuition fees of 10,000 / year plus a 1,300 / year (for accommodation)
- Integrated Master-Doctoral Program: a tuition fees of 8,000 / year (during the Master’s study period) or 10,000 / year (during the Doctoral study period) plus a 1,300 / year (for accommodation).
SUSTech Integrated Master-PhD and PhD Scholarships Eligibility
To apply for the SUSTech scholarship, applicants must:
- be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport.
- hold a Bachelor’s degree for Integrated Master-PhD Programs.
- PhD Program applicants must hold a Master’s degree.
- satisfy the following language requirements: TOEFL 85 or above; or IELTS 6.5 overall or above, with no sub-scores lower than 6.0. Applicants are not required to present TOEFL or IELTS score if their first language is English, or their previous degree was awarded by an institution where the medium of instruction was English.
Note : Due to the impact of COVID-19, and the entry policy of mainland China, in order to ensure that students are able to be enrolled on time, this year SUSTech will only consider graduate programs applications from applicants who are currently in mainland China and remain in mainland China until they are actually enrolled.

Required Documents
- Degree certificates: Ph.D. Program applicants should submit both master’s and bachelor’s degree certificates. Integrated Master-PhD Program applicants should submit a bachelor’s degree certificate. Those who have not graduated yet must provide an official pre-graduation certificate/letter showing their student status and stating the expected graduation date.
- Academic Transcripts. PhD Program applicants should submit both master’s and bachelor’s degree transcripts. Integrated Master-PhD Program applicants should submit bachelor’s degree transcripts.
- Score Report of English language test (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS/others).
- Front page of passport.
- Passport size photo.
- CV or Resume.
- Personal statement, which should include study and work experience, reasons for application, etc.
- Two academic recommendation letters from scholars who hold the title of associate professor or higher, or senior professionals in a related academic field.
- Other documents that prove academic abilities.
Please note: For all documents in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized copies of translations in Chinese or English need to be provided. Please scan the original or notarized application documents in color using a scanner. Images captured by mobile phone or camera are not acceptable. Scans of copies are also not acceptable.
