Applications are now open for the MISTRAL Excellence Scholarship in France for foreign students. This scholarship program was created to help foreign students enrolled in a higher education institution abroad and who wish to continue studies at Avignon University with a view to obtaining a Master’s degree.
Mistral scholarship holders are exempt from tuition fees for enrolling in Master in Avignon University. Payments are conditional on the production of supporting documents: certificates of attendance at courses followed for the first two payments of the year and the presentation of an end-of-year report for the last payment. The student who has won the Mistral scholarship and who must complete an internship integrated as part of his course is required to do so in France, except in special cases linked to the constraints of the chosen Master.
Created in 1309, Avignon University is a public institution for research and snowmaking, of a scientific, cultural and professional nature, and located in Avignon in France. Université d’Avignon has more than 7,000 students enrolled in the various programs it offers. The university specializes in science education, economics and management, health, human and social sciences, technology, arts, letters and languages, law, etc.

MISTRAL Excellence Scholarship Benefits
The total amount of the Mistral scholarship is 6,000 euros this sum will be paid to candidates selected for M1 and M2 each year. The scholarship is paid in three installments, as follows:
- €3,000 after registration and arrival of the student at Avignon University
- €2,500 from February
- €500 from May.
Students funded for one year of M1 may request to benefit from the renewal of the scholarship for their studies in M2 provided that they submit their application to the Mistral scholarship committee the following year. The renewal of the Mistral scholarship is conditioned by the results obtained by the student in the first semester of the first year of the Master’s degree and by the student’s attendance in all lessons.
Avignon University will finance a maximum of 7 Mistral scholarships for the two levels of the Master during the year 2024-2025, for a total of 42,000 euros.
Mistral scholarship holders are exempt from national registration fees and differentiated registration fees applicable to students from countries outside the European Economic Area for registration in Masters at Avignon University. p>
Note: In the event that the winner of the Mistral scholarship has to do an internship as part of their course, they must do so in France. An exception is provided for in special cases related to the study regulations of the Master in which he is registered or of a research internship in a laboratory of Avignon University carried out within the framework of an international partnership. In the event that the Master’s internship takes place abroad, the winner may combine their Mistral grant with another mobility grant. He is not allowed to do his internship in his country of origin.
MISTRAL Excellence Scholarship Eligibility
To apply for this university scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria.
- be enrolled in a higher education institution abroad at the time of application. Priority will be given to candidates enrolled in a partner higher education institution of Avignon University;
- have a very good academic record and meet the academic and linguistic criteria set by the teaching team of the course concerned at Avignon University;
- not to have interrupted their studies for more than a year;
- apply for registration in Master 1 or 2 at Avignon University for the academic year 2024-2025;
- not already reside in France;
- be under 28 years old on December 31, 2024;
- never have applied for the Mistral Excellence Scholarship (except in the case of a renewal);
- not benefit from another scholarship for the training requested. Applying for the Mistral program does not exclude applying for another grant application in parallel with the Mistral application. In the event of obtaining a scholarship other than the Mistral scholarship, the candidate must inform Avignon University as soon as possible and renounce the Mistral scholarship.
