Applications are now open for the Government of Taiwan Fellowships. The scholarship is fully funded and available for foreign experts and scholars interested in research related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, the Asia-Pacific region, and Sinology.
Established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship is fully funded and will be awarded to foreign nationals for a period of 3 to 12 months. Fellowships are tenable at universities and academic institutions in Taiwan. It is not a degree program. You come for three to twelve months, work on a topic related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, the Asia-Pacific, or Sinology, and get paid.
Up to now, there have been more than 1500 scholars from more than 93 countries accepted by this research program on the Asian continent. Recipients will conduct their research in Taiwan as early as January next year.

Government of Taiwan Fellowships Benefits
Selected applicants will receive the following benefits:
- Monthly grants are paid at the beginning of every month.
- Professors, associate professors, research fellows, or associate research fellows: NT$60,000.
- Assistant professors, assistant research fellows, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, doctoral program students, and other candidates recommended by ROC (Taiwan) missions: NT$50,000.
- One round-trip, economy-class ticket for the most direct route to Taiwan. Maximum subsidy by region:
- Northeast & Southeast Asia: NT$35,000
- Europe & West Asia: NT$60,000
- North America: NT$55,000
- Central & South America: NT$75,000
- Africa: NT$90,000
- Oceania: NT$65,000.
- Group accident insurance: NT$1 million
Note : The fellowship term is three to twelve months. Stipends are paid for the full duration of your stay.
Government of Taiwan Fellowships Eligibility
To apply for the MOFA Taiwan fellowship, candidates must be foreign nationals in one of these categories:
- Professor, associate professor, assistant professor, post-doctoral researcher, doctoral candidate, or doctoral program student at an overseas university; or
- Research fellow or equivalent at an academic institution abroad.
Note : Those who are currently conducting research, teaching, or studying in Taiwan are ineligible. The fellowship does not cover living expenses beyond the stipend, and you cannot hold other Taiwanese government scholarships or work without permission.

How to Apply for the Government of Taiwan Fellowships
Interested applicants in this Asia opportunity should first click on the apply button below to submit an on-line application form and then submit the following documents to the ROC Embassy or Representative Office in or nearest to their country of residence, as appropriate, for preliminary review. Follow these steps:
- Online application: Fill out the form on the Taiwan Fellowship website and upload your resume (with publication list), research proposal (three pages, standard academic format), and two letters of recommendation (or one recommendation plus one letter of consent from your institute’s chief administrator).
- Print and submit: Print the completed application form and send it, together with all supporting documents, by post to the nearest ROC (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office. They will verify your data and write a recommendation.
- Wait for shortlisting: MOFA convenes an evaluation committee. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by email.
- Obtain a host institution: You must contact a university or research institution in Taiwan and obtain a “Letter of Consent for Research.” Send this letter to the Taiwan Fellowship team ([email protected] or [email protected]) by December 31, 2026.
- Receive final approval: After verifying your letter of consent, the team issues a “Grant Authorization Letter.” You are now officially a recipient. Use that letter to apply for an “FR” visa (visitor visa for stays under six months and residence visa for six months or longer). Visa fees are waived.
