The University of Toronto is one of the best universities in Canada, and its diplomas are well respected in the world. The university offers a variety of admission awards to its international students when they apply to their respective programs. Some University of Toronto Admission Scholarships for International Students are automatically granted to newly admitted foreign students, while others might require them to complete a separate application or an awards profile.

The university has three main admission scholarships namely: the University of Toronto International Scholar Award, the International Merit Admission Award, and the International Student Admission Bursary. International students who would like to be considered for these scholarships need to apply for their chosen Undergraduate degree program at the Faculty of Arts & Science. They will be considered for scholarships they qualified for.

University of Toronto Admission Scholarships for International Students Benefits

The University of Toronto provides various Admission Scholarships to its international students as shown below.

University of Toronto International Scholar Award

The University of Toronto International Scholar Award is offered upon admission to selected international students on the basis of merit. Students are automatically considered for this award valued up to $100,000 over 4 years of study (up to $40,000 in the first year and renewable for $20,000 in the second, third and fourth years.)

International Merit Admission Award

The International Merit Admission Award is offered upon admission to selected international students on the basis of merit. Students are automatically considered for this award valued up to $50,000 in the first year of studies. This award is not renewable.

International Student Admission Bursary

The International Student Admission Bursary is offered upon admission to selected international students on the basis of merit and financial need (as determined by the CSS application). Award amounts are variable. This award is not renewable.

Edward Blake Admission Scholarship

The Edward Blake Admission Scholarship is offered to an undergraduate student for general proficiency upon admission to the Faculty of Arts & Science. The total award value is $5,500 over four years of study, with $2,500 awarded upon registration in the first year and $1,000 awarded in the second, third, and fourth years if the Terms and Conditions of the scholarship are met.

Jack & Adrienne Taylor Scholarship for Undergraduate Students

The Jack & Adrienne Taylor Scholarship for Undergraduate Students is offered to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident undergraduate student enrolled in an arts program at the Faculty of Arts & Science on the basis of academic merit and financial need. The total scholarship value is $12,000, payable towards the recipient’s first year of study.

James Hosinec & Carol M. Isaac Scholarship in the Faculty of Arts & Science

The James Hosinec & Carol M. Isaac Scholarship in the Faculty of Arts & Science is offered to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Arts & Science on the basis of academic merit. The total value of this scholarship is $10,000 payable towards the recipient’s first year of study.

The Roberts Scholarship

The Roberts Scholarship is offered to an outstanding student enrolled in a science program at the Faculty of Arts & Science on the basis of financial need. The total award value is $25,000 over four years of study, with $10,000 granted upon registration in the first year and $5,000 awarded in the second, third, and fourth years if the Terms and Conditions of the scholarship are met.

Computer Science: Students in computer science will learn how to design software, develop computer applications such as databases and graphics and investigate mathematical problems. They will train to meet an increasing demand for graduates with scientific knowledge and creative skills to excel in the industry. A computer science degree will introduce students to tomorrow's technological world.

Humanities: Students in the humanities study all aspects of human culture, including language, literature, history, philosophy, fine art, architecture, cinema, classics, culture, religion, drama and music. From ancient Egypt to post-colonial literature, from languages to the civilizations of Asia, a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities provide students with the knowledge, intellectual skills, and habits of thought indispensable to modern education.

Life Sciences: Life sciences students will learn to apply methods of scientific inquiry to study the laws and processes of living matter. The study of life sciences helps students to understand and analyze the behavior of the human body and those of other organisms. It prepares students for ethical, social, and political questions arising from our increasing ability to protect the delicate and complex ecological balance that sustains the world.

Physical and Mathematical Sciences: Students in physical and mathematical sciences investigate the natural laws and processes of non-living matter. From the high-tech world of quantum optics and biophysics to the intricate problems of black holes and chaotic dynamics, these programs will introduce you to the research and issues that impact the world around us.

Rotman Commerce: Rotman commerce students will benefit from an innovative and integrative curriculum that presents a global perspective for an enriched professional undergraduate experience. Students will take career-oriented courses across one of three specialist options – Accounting, Finance & Economics, or Management – as well as a wide selection of courses in the arts and sciences. The balance assures graduates have a solid understanding of business and modern society along with critical and analytical skills for effective decision-making and organizational leadership.

Social Sciences: Social sciences students will explore issues that involve the inter-relationship between the individual, society and the environment. For example, they will look at how revolutions start and explore the relationship between the environment and the economy.

University of Toronto Admission Scholarships for International Students Eligibility

This North America scholarship will be awarded to international students admitted to an undergraduate program at the University of Toronto on the basis of academic merit. The award is conditional on:

  • Completion of your secondary school program with high academic standing and fully satisfying the conditions of your offer of admission to the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto. The faculty reserves the right to withdraw this award offer if these conditions are not satisfied.
  • Full-time registration to complete at least 3.0 credits by the end of the Fall/Winter session. An exception is made for students registered with Accessibility Services.
  • Registration as an international student (i.e. a non-Canadian requiring a study permit) in the Faculty of Arts & Science. International students charged domestic fees are not eligible.
  • Registration in the Faculty of Arts and Science. As this award is funded by the Faculty of Arts & Science, St. George to which you were admitted, it is not transferable to other campuses or faculties.

Award renewal is based on your academic performance and full-time study following your first, second, and third year of study. While renewal is not tied to a specific minimum grade point average, it is expected that your high academic achievement will continue and that you remain “in good standing” as defined by the Faculty of Arts & Science. The award may be withdrawn due to unsatisfactory academic performance.
