The Kemitraan Negara Bekembang (KNB) Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship program that provides funding for graduate students from developing countries to pursue their studies in Indonesia. KNB scholarships program is open to students from all over the world, with priority given to students from developing countries. Indonesian Government Scholarship Benefits

The KNB Indonesia Scholarship is a fully funded program that provides selected applicants with the following benefits during the scholarship period:

  1. A Settlement Allowance will be given to new students upon their arrival in Indonesia;
  2. Tuition Fees;
  3. Monthly allowance upon their arrival in Indonesia as long as they are living in Indonesia during their scholarship period;
  4. Research and book allowance per month;
  5. A health insurance;
  6. Funding for Publishing Scientific Articles;
  7. A round-trip international airfare (economy class) from the international airport of the student’s home country to Indonesia, including local transport to the host university;

Note : KNB Scholarship is calculated to support the KNB student costs only. There is no provision for dependents. KNB students are advised not to bring dependents or family to Indonesia. The KNB Scholarship provides no financial or pastoral support for dependents and will not endorse the visa applications of, nor provide travel for, dependents. Other expenses besides the above mentioned items will be considered personal expenses and will be borne by the students.

Indonesian Government Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this Asia scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age requirements. The maximum age (on December 31, 2026) to apply for a:
    • bachelor scholarship program is 21 years old
    • master scholarship program is 35 years old
    • phd scholarship program is 40 years old
  • Degree requirements (please provide the scanned degree certificate and academic transcripts in English or Bahasa, legalized by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country). Applicants must hold a :
    • high School degree to apply for a bachelor’s degree. Bachelor’s degree holder is not eligible to apply
    • bachelor’s degree to apply for a Master’s degree. Master’s degree holders are not eligible to apply
    • master degree to apply for a PhD degree. A doctorate degree holder is not eligible to apply.
  • Language requirements (the certificate must be obtained within the last 2 Years)
    • Bachelor’s degree applicants should have a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP of 477, TOEFL IBT of 53, IELTS of 5,5, TOEIC of 510 or equivalent.
    • Master’s degree applicants must have a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP of 500, TOEFL IBT of 61, IELTS of 6,0, TOEIC of 575 or equivalent.
    • PhD applicants should have a minimum score of: TOEFL ITP of 530, TOEFL IBT of 71, IELTS of 6,0, TOEIC of 640 or equivalent.
    • Candidates from English-speaking countries, or participants from universities who are enrolled in programs taught in English (stated in participant diploma/transcript), are not required to submit the English Proficiency document, by attaching official proof from their home university.

Furthermore, applicants must be able to provide the following documents

  • curriculum vitae *.
  • recommendation letter * from a potential research supervisor from one of the partner universities (for doctoral applicants only). The recommendation must be from the same university chosen.
  • statement of purpose * that at least states the purpose of their studies, the origin of their interest in studying in Indonesia and pursuing their chosen research topic and their plans for the academic future (dissertation proposal).
  • recommendation letter * to apply for the KNB scholarship from the Indonesian Embassy or the Indonesian Consulate General in English or Bahasa. The letter must be from the applicant’s country of origin, not the country of domicile.
  • letter of recommendation * for the KNB Scholarship application from your employer/direct supervisor in English or Bahasa. If currently unemployed, a statement letter may be provided.
  • Provide Academic Recommendation Letter * from previous schools in English or Bahasa.
  • Provide a video (maximum 5 minutes) in English or Bahasa uploaded to YouTube. The video link must be submitted in your KNB Scholarship account explaining:
    • applicant profile;
    • reasons for choosing to study in Indonesia and under KNB Scholarship;
    • and reasons for choosing the selected university and study program.
  • Provide a certified medical report issued within the last 3 (three) months, including a physical examination, infectious disease tests (Tuberculosis, syphilis, HIV/AIDS, Ebola, Mpox), a mental health test, and a negative drug test (amphetamine, methamphetamine, marijuana, morphine, and benzodiazepines).
  • Proof of citizenship : Official non-diplomatic or work passport valid at least until December 31st, 2027.
  • Willing not to marry or be married to, or engage with, a person holding or eligible for Indonesian citizenship or permanent residency, or with other scholarship recipients during the scholarship period.
  • Willing not to be pregnant during the scholarship period.
  • Not currently undergoing and will not undergo military service until the end of the scholarship period.

Note : Applicants from and/or residing in Africa must attach a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Documents with this “*” symbol in front must be in English or Bahasa.

How to Apply for the Indonesian Government Scholarship

Eligible applicants who would like to apply for this government scholarship program must follow the given instructions below:

  1. Download the KNB Scholarship Offer Letter(Click here to download the document).
  2. Submit the KNB Scholarship Offer Letter and the required documents to the Indonesian Embassy to acquire the recommendation letter. In case of no Indonesian official representative in your country, you need to obtain a letter from any Indonesian Embassy accredited to your country;
  3. Click on the apply button below and hit the APPLY NOW button and follow the given instructions to register, complete the online application process and upload all required documents and the Indonesian Embassy recommendation letter.
  4. Complete all stages of the selection process (administrative and academic selection), including online interviews and psychological tests conducted by selected universities for eligible candidates.

  1. Academic Certificate and Academic Transcript from previous degree that has been legalized by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country;
  2. Academic Recommendation Letter from Previous Schools;
  3. Curriculum Vitae;
  4. English Proficiency Test (Applicant from Non-English-Speaking Countries);
  5. Medical Report
  6. Recommendation Letter from the Employer/Immediate Supervisor;
  7. Recommendation letter from the potential research supervisor in one of the universities providing partner of the KNB Scholarship (for doctoral applicant only);
  8. Scan of valid passport;
  9. statement of purpose of their studies in Indonesia (for doctoral applicants only).

Note : All the required documents have to be written or officially translated into English or Bahasa. Selection results will be announced in June 2026.
