2019 AFS Global Citizen Prize for Young Leaders

Description:

The AFS Global Citizen Prize for Young Leaders is a new international award that will recognize one young person (up to age 30) for their commitment to improving the global community, and whose actions contribute to a more just, peaceful and accepting world.

The price is looking for an extraordinary person leading a project that brings together individuals and communities (representing different cultural ethnic,religious or other differences) to tackle one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Target group:

Open to young people (no older than 30 years old).

Award Benefits
  • The new AFS annual award will recognize one extraordinary young person for their commitment to improving the global community with a US$10,000 cash prize;
  • A trip to Montreal to attend the 2019 AFS Global Conference (Approximate Retail Value “ARV” of $2,500);
  • participation in the AFS Global Award winners’ network (ARV of $2,500);
  • The total ARV of the Prize is $15,000.
Eligibility

The AFS Global Citizen Prize for Young Leader is open worldwide to contestants except for candidates from Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and where prohibited. Young people are eligible for the prize if they have no more than 30 years old and are running a project that:

  • addresses a pressing global issue outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
  • makes impact on the local, national or international level
  • engages with diversity as a key to success
  • can be scaled up and extended
  • leads to a more just and peaceful world
Application instructions:

Candidates can apply for the Prize by clicking on the “Click to Apply” button below, fill in the application form and submit it before the deadline. Only one application per person will be considered.

Candidates for the AFS Global Citizen Prize for Young Leaders can also be nominated by someone else. The nominator should provide basic information within the designated form, after which AFS will notify the candidate about the nomination.

One person can nominate as many candidates as they wish. The number of nominations received will not influence the selection of the Prize winner.The Winner will be announced at the AFS Global Awards Ceremony on October 10, 2019 in Montreal, Canada.
